Dan Murray (Australian Rules Footballer)
Daniel Thomas Murray (19 December 1912 – 10 November 1992) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Thomas Joseph Murray (1875-1947), and Ellen Murray, née Cameron, née Grist (1874-1961), Daniel Thomas Murray was born at Colac, Victoria on 19 December 1912. He married Eileen May Dowdle (1913-1998) in 1933. Their son, Kevin later played 300 games for Fitzroy (its only 300 game player) and was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame as a legend. Football Murray was a halfback and first appeared for Fitzroy in 1933. He left to play with Prahan from 1934 to 1938, then returned to Fitzroy in 1938. Murray was suspended for 10 weeks by the VFA Tribunal in June 1937 on a kicking charge, which resulted in him missing out on playing in Prahran's 1937 VFA premiership. Colac is a small city in the Western District of Victoria, Australia, approximately 150 kilometres south-west of Melbourne on the southern shore of Lake Colac. 1944 VFL Grand Final
The 1944 VFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the Fitzroy Football Club and Richmond Football Club, held at the Junction Oval in Melbourne on 30 September 1944. It was the 46th annual grand final of the Victorian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1944 VFL season. The match was won by Fitzroy by a margin of 15 points, marking that club's first premiership since 1922, and its eighth (and final) premiership and final grand final appearance. The match attracted 41,000 spectators, down on expectations owing in part to a one-day tram strike. This was the last grand final to have two captain-coaches playing against each other.. The 1944 Grand Final was Fitzroy's last premiership before they merged with the Brisbane Bears in 1997 to become the Brisbane Lions, who won the premiership in 2001. Prahran (), also pronounced colloquially as Pran, is an inner suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 5 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Stonnington local government area. Prahran recorded a population of 12,203 at the 2021 census. Prahran is a part of Greater Melbourne, with many shops, restaurants and cafes.
