Daniel Lee Melville (born March 4, 1956) is a former American football punter who played one season with the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He first enrolled at Grossmont College before transferring to the University of California, Berkeley. Punter (football)
A punter (P) in gridiron football is a special teams player who receives the snapped ball directly from the line of scrimmage and then punts (kicks) the football to the opposing team so as to limit any field position advantage. This generally happens on a fourth down in American football and a third down in Canadian football. Punters may also occasionally take part in fake punts in those same situations, when they throw or run the football instead of punting. Skills and usage The purpose of the punt is to force the team that is receiving the kick to start as far as possible from the kicking team's end zone. Lakeside is a census designated place (CDP) in San Diego County, California. The population was 20,648 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census, up from 19,560 as of the 2000 United States Census, 2000 census. History Lakeside was home to the Kumeyaay prior to European contact, who called Lindo Lake "Ha Ptur" or ''Ha Pchurr'' (Barona Tribal dictionary), meaning lake or "circular water". Lakeside was founded in 1886 when 6,600 acres of land surrounding the naturally occurring Lindo Lake were purchased by the El Cajon Valley Land Company, who immediately began to promote the new land as a town and built an 80-room Victorian-style inn, the Lakeside Hotel, at a cost of $50,000 (approximately $1,220,000 today). Grossmont College is a public community college in El Cajon, California. Its name originated with the silent film actor and producer William J. Gross, who was enticed by Ed Fletcher to invest the purchase of land, part of which was called Grossmont. The campus sits in the Fletcher Hills community of El Cajon and is bordered by the cities of San Diego and Santee.
