Dan Mackinnon (pastoralist)
Ewen Daniel Mackinnon (11 February 1903 – 7 June 1983) was an Australian politician. The son of state MLA Donald Mackinnon, he was born in Melbourne and educated at Geelong Grammar School and then attended Oxford University. He returned to Australia as a grazier at Linton, Victoria, Linton before becoming a company director and serving in the military 1938–43. In 1949, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Liberal Party of Australia, Liberal for Division of Wannon, Wannon, but he was defeated in 1951. In 1953 he returned to the House as the member for Division of Corangamite, Corangamite, having been elected in the 1953 Corangamite by-election, by-election that followed the death of Allan McDonald (Australian politician), Allan McDonald. In 1966, Mackinnon retired from politics and was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). Division Of Wannon
The Division of Wannon is an Australian Electoral Division in the state of Victoria. History The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first Federal election. The division was named after the Wannon River. For the first half-century after Federation, it regularly traded hands between the Australian Labor Party and the conservative parties. However, a 1955 redistribution removed most of the seat's Labor-friendly territory, and it has been a safe Liberal seat for most of its history since then. The seat's most notable member was Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, to date the last prime minister from a country seat. His successor, David Hawker, was Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives during the last term of the Howard Government. Hawker retired in 2010 and was succeeded by Dan Tehan.
