Daniel John Jones (born 14 December 1994) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender for club Port Vale. His preferred position is at centre-back, though he is able to play at left-back, and he is also a skilled throw-in taker. Jones started his career in Hartlepool United's youth system, signing his first professional contract in 2013. Having been released by the club in 2016, Jones signed for League Two club Grimsby Town, with loan spells at Gateshead and AFC Fylde during the 2016–17 season. He joined Barrow in 2017 and was a first-team regular for two seasons, winning two caps for the England C team, before he joined Salford City on a two-year contract in June 2019. He spent the second half of the 2019–20 season on loan at former club Barrow, which would end in them winning promotion as champions of the National League. Dan Jones (4 August 1810 – 3 January 1862) (often referred to as Captain Dan) was an influential Welsh missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jones is well known for having heard the " final prophecy" of Joseph Smith, namely, that Jones would fulfil a mission to Wales before he died. Early life Jones was born in Halkyn, in the county of Flintshire, north-east Wales, the sixth of Thomas Jones and Ruth Roberts's eight children. When he was sixteen years old, Jones became a sailor. On 3 January 1837, Jones married Jane Melling, a childhood friend from Halkyn. In 1840, Jones and his wife emigrated to the United States, where Jones became captain of the ''Ripple'', a steamship on the Mississippi River. The ''Ripple'' primarily carried passengers between New Orleans and St. Louis. Daniel Jones (26 September 1908 – 19 February 1985) was a British Labour Party politician, and Member of Parliament (MP) for Burnley from 1959 to 1983. Early life Jones was educated at Ynyshir School, Rhondda and the National Council of Labour Colleges where he himself became a lecturer. He was a trade union official. Parliamentary career He unsuccessfully contested the Barry constituency at the 1955 general election, but was returned as MP for Burnley at the 1959 general election. He was re-elected until his retirement at the 1983 general election, when he was succeeded by Peter Pike.
