Dan Illouz
Dan Eliyahu Ya'akov Illouz (Hebrew: דן אליהו יעקב אילוז) (born 21 February 1986) is a Canadian-born Israeli politician currently serving as a member of the Knesset for the Likud party since January 2023. He was previously a city councillor in Jerusalem. Early life and education Illouz was born to Moroccan Jewish parents in Montreal, Canada. He has a degree in law from McGill University, and a degree in public policy from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He moved to Israel from Montreal in 2009, at the age of 23. Political career Illouz became a member of Hitorerut, a political party in Jerusalem, and became a member of the Jerusalem City Council in March 2018 following the resignation of another councillor. He was subsequently elected to the council in the October 2018 municipal elections, and resigned from the council in 2021 as part of a rotation agreement with Yosef Spiezer. Knesset
The Knesset ( he, הַכְּנֶסֶת ; "gathering" or "assembly") is the unicameral legislature of Israel. As the supreme state body, the Knesset is sovereign and thus has complete control of the entirety of the Israeli government (with the exception of checks and balances from the courts and local governments). The Knesset passes all laws, elects the president and prime minister (although the latter is ceremonially appointed by the President), approves the cabinet, and supervises the work of the government, among other things. In addition, the Knesset elects the state comptroller. It also has the power to waive the immunity of its members, remove the president and the state comptroller from office, dissolve the government in a constructive vote of no confidence, and to dissolve itself and call new elections. The Norwegian Law ( he, החוק הנורווגי, ''HaḤok HaNorvegi''), initially Mini-Norwegian Law ( he, החוק הנורווגי הקטן) for its first version, is a name given to an amendment to the Basic Law: The Knesset, one of the Basic Laws of Israel. It affects the appointment of ministers and members of the Knesset. The amendment allows ministers or deputy ministers to resign from the Knesset but remain a minister, with their Knesset seat taken by the next person on the party's list. If the person who resigned leaves the cabinet, they are able to return to the Knesset in place of their replacement. The law initially limited each party to one resignation and replacement. The legislation became commonly known as the 'Norwegian Law' due to a similar system being in place in Norway. The amendment was approved by the Knesset by a vote of 64–51 on 30 July 2015.
