Dan Golenpaul
Dan Golenpaul (1900 – February 13, 1974) was the creator of ''Information Please'', a popular American radio quiz show which aired on NBC from 1938 to 1951. Golenpaul also edited early editions of the spin-off book, the ''Information Please Almanac''. He was married to Ann Golenpaul, with whom he founded Golenpaul Associates, a radio production company. Information Please
''Information Please'' is an American radio quiz show, created by Dan Golenpaul, which aired on NBC from May 17, 1938, to April 22, 1951. The title was the contemporary phrase used to request from telephone operators what was then called "information" and later called "directory assistance". The series was moderated by Clifton Fadiman. A panel of experts would attempt to answer questions submitted by listeners. For the first few shows, a listener was paid $2 for a question that was used, and $5 more if the experts could not answer it correctly. When the show got its first sponsor (Canada Dry), the total amounts were increased to $5 and $10 respectively. A complete ''Encyclopædia Britannica'' was later added to the prize for questions that stumped the panel. The amounts rose to $10 and $25 when Lucky Strike took over sponsorship of the program. Information Please Almanac
''The TIME Almanac'' was an almanac published in the United States. The almanac was first published in 1947 as the ''Information Please Almanac'' by Dan Golenpaul. The name was changed with the 1999 edition when ''Time'' magazine bought naming rights to the almanac. ''Information Please'' was created in 1947 from the host and panelists from the popular radio show by the same name. The radio show which began in 1938 and consisted of a panel of information experts that answered questions sent in by the public. The fact experts answered questions over the air and when the panelists were not able to give a correct answer they used humor instead. Host Clifton Fadiman edited and helped publish the first edition in 1947. In 1997, the ''Information Please Almanac'' merged with ''Time''. The ''Time Almanac for Kids with Information Please'' was first published in 2000.
