Altagracia Casandra Damirón Santana, known as Casandra Damirón (March 12, 1919 - December 5, 1983), was a Dominican Republic, Dominican singer, dancer and folklorist. Recognition In her country she was known "La Soberana de la Canción" ("The Sovereign of the Song", "Queen of the Song"). Since 1985 the Casandra Awards in arts was established, in her honor. However in 2012 the descendants of Casandra Damirón decided to withdraw the authorization to use Casandra's name from the awards name arguing that for the previous two years the ceremony departed from the rules which "have governed the award in terms of its content and ''raison d'être''", and therefore it is currently known as the Soberano Awards. The Casandra Damirón Hall of Fame was established in the consulate of the Dominican Republic in the United States in 1966 which paid homage to prominent persons of Dominican culture. Antonio Damirón
Antonio Damirón (1794–1875) was a French-Venezuelan printer. Damirón was born in Mâcon, France and established a printing business in Venezuela, where he lived the rest of his life. He is considered to be one of the leading printers in Venezuela in the 19th century, and is attributed with creating the first color prints in Venezuela. Career Damirón moved with his family from Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Saint Thomas to Caracas in 1827, where he quickly received a letter of security to reside in Venezuela. In 1830, he acquired from Colonel Francisco Avendaño a Lithography, lithograph workshop located in the port of La Guaira where he began printing colored decks or cards on wooden planks. These were considered as the first colored prints made in Venezuela. By 1831 he acted as representative in charge of the G.F. Jean Philibert Damiron
Jean-Philibert Damiron (; 10 January 1794 – 11 January 1862) was a French philosopher. Biography Damiron was born at Belleville. At nineteen he entered the École Normale, where he studied under Eugène Burnouf, Abel-Francois Villemain, and Victor Cousin. After teaching for several years in provincial towns, he came to Paris, where he lectured on philosophy in various institutions, and finally became professor in the normal school, and titular professor at the Sorbonne. In 1824 he joined Paul-François Dubois and Théodore Simon Jouffroy in establishing ''Le Globe''; and he was also a member of the committee of the society which took for its motto '' Aide-toi, le ciel t'aidera''. In 1833 he was appointed chevalier of the Legion of Honour, and in 1836 member of the Academy of Moral Sciences. Damiron died in Paris.
