Damien Freeman
Damien Freeman is Gaelic footballer from Magheracloone, County Monaghan. He plays for Magheracloone Mitchell's GAC, Magheracloone Mitchell's and at senior level for the Monaghan county football team, Monaghan county team. Damien is a graduate from the minor and under-21 inter-county ranks, and has always been an ace in the Monaghan pack with his quality play. He has experience of captaining a national title winning side at croke park, having led the Monaghan side from right half back to the 2005 Allianz National League Division Two crown. One of the giants of the Magheracloone team that made history in October 2004 with a first county senior title in the history of the club. He also led the Monaghan team to their first Ulster Senior Football Championship final in 19 years in 2007. Magheracloone Mitchells is a Gaelic Athletic Association Gaelic football club from the parish of Magheracloone in County Monaghan, Ireland. The team participate in the Monaghan Senior Football Championship. The Magheracloone Mitchells GAA club pitch is situated on the main Carrickmacross-Kingscourt Road. On the site there are two pitches (the main pitch and a training pitch), modern changing rooms as well as a community centre and a handball alley. History 2018 collapse On Monday 24 September 2018, a disused mine collapsed in the area where the club is located. Monaghan County Football Team
The Monaghan county football team ( ) represents Monaghan in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Monaghan GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. Magheracloone
Magheracloone is a parish in south County Monaghan. Its name comes from the Irish ''Machaire Cluana'' which means 'plain of meadow'. This is a strange name for such a hilly parish; it is derived from its most important place in ancient times; a flat area of land in the townland of Camaghy, on which the sports ground and ancient church of St. Molua were located. The parish covers 12,952 statute acres in area, making it the largest parish in South Monaghan. The parish borders three neighbouring counties; Cavan, Louth and Meath. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). Ulster Senior Football Championship
The Ulster Senior Football Championship is an inter-county competition for Gaelic football teams in the province of Ulster. It is organised by the Ulster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and begins in early May. The final is usually played on the third Sunday in July. All nine Ulster counties participate. It is regarded as hardest to win of the four provincial football championships. At a referee conference in January 2015, David Coldrick said about officiating in the competition: "Ulster makes or breaks you. It can be a graveyard. The games are different. There is an extra dimension and intensity, and you must be at your best. If you aren't prepared physically and mentally, the chances are you will be caught out. Shane Duffy
Shane Patrick Michael Duffy (born 1 January 1992) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a defender for club Fulham and the Republic of Ireland national team. Duffy came through the youth academy at Everton, where he completed his development after being promoted into the senior squad, spending most of his time at the club out on loan. Tomás "Tommy" Freeman is an Irish Gaelic footballer from Magheracloone, County Monaghan. He plays at senior level for the Monaghan county team. He received an All Star Award in 2007. Freeman plays his club football for Magheracloone Mitchells. Personal life Freeman is a carpenter by profession. His brother Damien also played for Magheracloone and Monaghan. Playing career Inter-county In 2005 Freeman helped Monaghan win the National League Division 2 title. He scored 2–03 against Meath in the final. He also won an Irish News Ulster All-Star award for his performances that year.
