John Dalvi
Brigadier John Parashuram Dalvi (3 July 1920 – October 1974) was an Indian Army officer. During the Sino-Indian War of 1962, he was the commander of the Indian 7th Brigade, which was destroyed, leading Dalvi to be captured by the People's Liberation Army on 22 October 1962. Early life Dalvi was born on 3 July 1920 in Basra, Iraq where his father was serving with the British administration. He returned to India in 1923 and studied at St. Mary's High School, Bombay. He graduated and joined to study under the Jesuits at St. Xavier's College, Bombay. In 1940 with the outbreak of World War II he joined the British Indian Army. British Indian Army Dalvi was commissioned into the Baluch Regiment on 22 February 1942, was promoted war-substantive lieutenant on 1 October, and was promoted substantive lieutenant on 22 August 1943. Jaywant Dalvi
Jaywant Dalvi (14 August 1925 – 16 September 1994) was a prominent contemporary Marathi writer in Maharashtra, India, originally from Arawali (Dist.Sindhudurg, Tal. Vengurle) in Maharashtra. He worked as an assistant editor at Marathi newspapers ''Prabhāt'' and ''Lokmānya'', and later with USIS. As part of USIS efforts to make good English literature available in other languages, Dalvi selected texts and able translators, and helped the cause. He took an early retirement to concentrate on writing novels. He is best remembered for his dramas, and a humorous column on Marathi literary personalities which he wrote under the pseudonym: ThanthanpaaL. Michael Dalvi (born 18 May 1945, Bombay, Maharashtra) is a former Indian cricketer who played first-class cricket from 1966 to 1982. Life and career Dalvi is the son of Brigadier John Dalvi and was educated at the all-boys boarding school The Doon School in Dehradun. He received his undergraduate degree from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. A right-handed batsman who usually batted at number three, Dalvi made his first-class debut in 1966-67 while studying at Delhi University. In his fifth game that season he made 158, his first century, and 45 for Delhi against Services in the Ranji Trophy, top-scoring in each innings. He moved south in 1967 to play for Madras. The Saraswat Brahmins are Hindu Brahmins, who are spread over widely separated regions spanning from Kashmir in North India to Konkan in West India to Kanara (coastal region of Karnataka) and Kerala in South India. Koli People
The Koli is an Indian caste found in Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Odisha and Jammu and Kashmir states in India. Koli is an agriculturist caste of Gujarat but in coastal areas they also work as fishermen along with agriculture. In the beginning of 20th century, the Koli caste was recognised as a Criminal Tribe under Criminal Tribes Act by British Indian government because of their anti-social activities during World War I. The Koli caste forms the largest caste-cluster in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, comprising 24% and 30% of the total population in those states respectively. Pathare Prabhu
Pathare Prabhu is one of the Hindu communities in the city of Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay). Introduction The Pathare Prabhus and the Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhus ( CKPs) are considered sister communities, both being part of the 'Prabhu castes'. Both Pathare Prabhu and CKP follow the Advaita Vedanta Smartha tradition of Hinduism propounded by Adi Shankara. Along with all the Maharashtrian Brahmin castes and the CKP, they are considered one of the 'high' or 'elite' castes of Maharashtra. The Pathare Prabhu, in the 19th century would to refer to Bombay as 'Desh' (country). They formed the "Kshatriya Union Club" under which were the five primary collectives of Girgaon, Mazagaon, Parel, Mahim and Worli.
