Canaseraga Creek
Canaseraga Creek is a stream that flows through Livingston, Steuben, and Allegany Counties in western and central New York. It is a tributary of the Genesee River, and its watershed is the largest sub-watershed of that river. The creek's name is of Seneca origin, and was recorded in early records as ''Ganusgago'', ''Kanuskago'', and ''Caniskrauga''. Translations of the name include both "among the milkweeds" and " slippery elms". Course Canaseraga Creek rises in the town of Nunda, and initially flows south. Nunda (village), New York
Nunda is a village in the town of Nunda, Livingston County, New York, United States. The population of the village was 1,377 at the 2010 census, out of 3,064 in the entire town. History The village was incorporated in 1839 as "Nunda Valley". A large fire destroyed part of the village in 1852. In 1853, an attempt was made to found a new county with Nunda village as the county seat. This attempt failed. The Union Block was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. New York State Route 408 (NY 408) is a state highway located entirely within Livingston County, New York, in the United States. It runs north–south from an intersection with NY 70 near the hamlet of Dalton in the town of Nunda to a junction with NY 63 in the town of Groveland near NY 408's exit with Interstate 390 (I-390). Most of NY 408 is a two-lane rural highway that passes through lightly developed areas; however, the last two miles (3 km) of the highway, where it runs in a due east–west direction, are heavily trafficked as NY 408 becomes a key connector road in both directions. Portageville, New York
Portageville is a hamlet located in the town of Genesee Falls in Wyoming County, New York, United States. Its name derives from the Native American canoeists who would withdraw their craft from the river to avoid going over three waterfalls in the Genesee River gorge now known as Portage Falls. They had to ''portage'' several miles to the site of present-day Mount Morris, where they could embark for the rest of the journey downriver. Portageville is the only named community in the town of Genesee Falls. New York State Route 70
New York State Route 70 (NY 70) is a short state highway in the western portion of New York in the United States. It travels through three different counties in just and is the primary road to and from the village of Canaseraga. The western terminus of the route is at an intersection with NY 436 in the Livingston County town of Portage. Its eastern terminus is at a junction with NY 36 in the Steuben County town of Dansville. Although NY 70 is mostly signed north–south, it follows a more southeast–northwest alignment and is considered an east–west route by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT).
