Dals-Ed Municipality (''Dals-Eds kommun'') is a municipality in Västra Götaland County in western Sweden, on the border to Norway. Its seat is located in the town of Ed. The present municipality was formed during the local government reform of 1952 through the amalgamation of six former units. Its territory was not affected by the 1971 reform. Locality There is only one locality with more than 200 inhabitants in the municipality, and that is the seat Ed. Tourism Dals-Ed Municipality, located in the historical province of Dalsland, has a united tourism motto for Dalsland, saying that Dalsland, with its population of 50,000, is a place where one will not feel crowded. This is perhaps most fitting for Dals-Ed, as it is the sparsest populated municipality in Västra Götaland County, with 6.7 inhabitants per km2. The municipality promises a quiet environment. Västra Götaland County ( sv, Västra Götalands län) is a county or '' län'' on the western coast of Sweden. Halden
Halden (), between 1665 and 1928 known as Fredrikshald, is both a town and a municipality in Viken county, Norway. The municipality borders Sarpsborg to the northwest, Rakkestad to the north and Aremark to the east, as well as the Swedish municipalities Strömstad, Tanum and Dals-Ed respectively to the southwest, south and southeast. The seat of the municipality, Halden is a border town located at the mouth of the Tista river on the Iddefjord, the southernmost border crossing between Norway and Sweden. Tanum Municipality
Tanum Municipality (; ''Tanums kommun'') is a municipality in Västra Götaland County in southwestern Sweden. Its seat is the town of Tanumshede, with 1,600 inhabitants. The present municipality was formed in 1971 through the amalgamation of three former units. Before the subdivision reform of 1952, there were seven entities in the area. Etymology The parish is named after the old farm Tanum ( Norse ''Túnheimr''), since the first church was built there. The first element is ''tún'' 'country courtyard', the last element is heimr 'homestead, farm'. Munkedal Municipality
Munkedal Municipality (''Munkedals kommun'') is a municipality in Västra Götaland County in western Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Munkedal. The nationwide municipal reform of 1952 saw the creation of Munkedal, Svarteborg, Sörbygden and Ödeborg as larger rural municipalities. As early as 1967 Ödeborg was dissolved and parts of it added to Munkedal. Finally, in 1974 Svarteborg and Sörbygden were merged into Munkedal forming the present unit. Etymology The municipality is named after the old farm Munkedal. This farm was owned by the monks at Dragsmark Abbey. The last element is ''dal'' 'dale, valley'. Färgelanda Municipality (''Färgelanda kommun'') is a municipality in Västra Götaland County in western Sweden. Its seat is in the town of Färgelanda. The present municipality was formed in 1974 when "old" Färgelanda Municipality (which in 1967 had absorbed Ödeborg) was amalgamated with Högsäter. Its coat of arms is based on a medieval seal depicting a harrow, symbolizing agriculture. Dalsland
Dalsland () is a Swedish traditional province, or ''landskap'', situated in Götaland in southern Sweden. Lying to the west of Lake Vänern, it is bordered by Värmland to the north, Västergötland to the southeast, Bohuslän to the west, and Norway to the northwest. The province has a low population density of around 14 inhabitants/km2 and just one town of significant size: Åmål. The total population numbers 50,604. The uninhabited areas are characterized by dense forests in the northwestern uplands and lakes in the east, giving rise to the epithet, commonly used for Dalsland, of "Sweden's lake province". Bengtsfors Municipality (''Bengtsfors kommun'') is a municipality in Västra Götaland County in western Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Bengtsfors. The present municipality was formed in 1971 when the former market town (''köping'') of Bengtsfors (instituted in 1926) was amalgamated with the municipalities of Bäckefors, Lelång and Steneby. Geography The municipality has much water areas, consisting of lakes and streams. It makes it a good place for canoeing, fishing and bathing. Every year a canoeing marathon called ''Dalslands Kanot Marathon+'', or DKM+, is held. It is an enduring 55 km long (a marathon "plus"), stretching through the many municipal streams, and one of Sweden's largest canoeing competitions. Bengtsfors is also crossed by the Dalsland Canal. Årjäng Municipality
Årjäng Municipality (''Årjängs kommun'') is a municipality in Värmland County in west central Sweden, bordering Norway. Its seat is located in the town of Årjäng. A separate local government entity named Årjäng was created in 1941 when it was detached from Silbodal. In 1952 the two were reunited under the name of Årjäng. In 1971 Sillerud and Holmedal were amalgamated with Årjäng. In 1974 Töcksmark was added, expanding the municipality to its current size. Tresticklan
Tresticklan National Park ( sv, Tresticklan nationalpark) is located in the municipality of Dals-Ed in northwestern Dalsland, Sweden, along the Norwegian border. "Trestickel" means "trident", possibly a reference to the shape of Lake Stora Tresticklan. This national park contains one of the few remaining areas of old-growth forest in southern Scandinavia.
