Dalry Football Club was an association football club from Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland. History The club was formed in 1884 with 40 members. In its first season, the club had an equable season, winning 14 and losing 13 of its 34 matches, and coming out with an even goal difference, scoring and conceding 77 goals; by that time the club's membership had risen to 71, which made it one of the biggest Ayrshire clubs outside Kilmarnock and Ayr. However, as a comparative latecomer, Dalry was never a successful club. It entered the Scottish Cup every season from 1884–85 to 1896–97, and only once got as far as the third round proper; after the Scottish Football Association introduced preliminary rounds in 1891–92, and later the Scottish Qualifying Cup, Dalry did not win through to the first round proper. 1887–88 Scottish Cup
The 1887–88 Scottish Cup was the 15th season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. Renton won the competition for the second time after they beat Cambuslang 6–1 in the final. The result set a new record as the largest margin of victory in a Scottish Cup Final - a record that was equalled by Celtic in 1972 but has never been bettered. Beith is a small town in the Garnock Valley, North Ayrshire, Scotland approximately south-west of Glasgow. The town is situated on the crest of a hill and was known originally as the "''Hill o' Beith''" (hill of the birches) after its ''Court Hill''. History Name Beith's name is thought to emanate from Ogham, which is sometimes referred to as the "''Celtic Tree Alphabet''", ascribing names of trees to individual letters. ''Beithe'' in Old Irish means ''Birch-tree'' (cognate to Latin ''betula''). There is reason to believe that the whole of the district was covered with woods. The town of Beith itself was once known as 'Hill of Beith' as this was the name of the feudal barony and was itself derived from the Court Hill near Hill of Beith Castle. Alternatively, Beith may be derived from Cumbric ''*baɣeδ'', 'boar' (Welsh ''baedd''). The local pronunciation of the name would favour this theory. Ayrshire Football League is a defunct soccer league in Scotland. Formed in 1891 by Annbank, Ayr Parkhouse, Beith, Galston, Irvine, Kilwinning Monkcastle, Mauchline, Newmilns, Saltcoats Victoria and Stevenston Thistle F.C. By 1893 the Ayrshire Football League had increased to 16 clubs. For some, this was too many and the likelihood of playing to small crowds was irksome. So 7 clubs broke away to form the Ayrshire Football Combination. Saltcoats Victoria F
Saltcoats ( gd, Baile an t-Salainn) is a town on the west coast of North Ayrshire, Scotland. The name is derived from the town's earliest industry when salt was harvested from the sea water of the Firth of Clyde, carried out in small cottages along the shore. It is part of the 'Three Towns' conurbation along with Ardrossan and Stevenston and is the third largest town in North Ayrshire. History In the late eighteenth century, several shipyards operated at Saltcoats, producing some sixty to seventy ships. The leading shipbuilder was William Ritchie, but in 1790 he moved his business to Belfast. By the early nineteenth century, the town had stopped producing ships. Saltcoats Town Hall, which dates back to 1826, is a Category B listed building. In 2018, a statue to commemorate the popular football Bobby Lennox, from the town, was constructed across from the main station. New Cumnock is a town in East Ayrshire, Scotland. It expanded during the coal-mining era from the late 18th century, and mining remained its key industry until its pits were shut in the 1960s.
