''Dallëndyshe'' ("The Swallow") is the fifth studio album by Swiss-Albanian jazz musician Elina Duni and the second under ECM Records. It was released in April 2015. Composition Like her previous album, the troubled past of the Balkan region is the main inspiration for the album, but Elina Duni adds that "Even though we are dealing with tragic themes of exile it is not as dark as ''Matanё Malit''." Elina Duni
Elina Duni (born 10 March 1981, Tirana, Albania) is a Swiss-Albanian jazz singer and composer. She left Albania at the age of ten to live and study in Geneva, Switzerland. She went on to study singing, composition and teaching at the University of the Arts Bern, but from 2004 onwards Albanian folk music became a prime influence. At this moment, in 2004, she formed a quartet under her own name with the Swiss jazz pianist Colin Vallon, bassist Patrice Moret and drummer Norbert Pfammatter. In a review, John Fordham concluded that "This quartet definitely sounds like rising star material for ECM." After two albums – ''Baresha'' (2008) and ''Lume Lume'' (2010) – on Meta Records, the quartet went on to record for ECM in 2012, with ''Matanë Malit'' (Beyond the Mountain) and in 2015, ''Dallëndyshe'' (Swallow). Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Bass (guitar)
The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four to six strings or courses. Piano
The piano is a stringed keyboard instrument in which the strings are struck by wooden hammers that are coated with a softer material (modern hammers are covered with dense wool felt; some early pianos used leather). Colin Vallon
Colin Vallon (17 November 1980 in Lausanne) is a Swiss jazz pianist. Biography Vallon studied classical music for two years before he started studies with jazz pianist Marc Ueter at fourteen years of age. In 1998 he attended the Swiss Jazz School and studied with Silvano Bazan, William Evans, Manuel Bärtsch, and Bert Joris. Colin Vallon Trio was founded in 1999, with bassist Lorenz Beyeler and drummer Raphaël Pedroli, releasing his debut album ''Les Ombres'' in 2004. He started to develop his own piano techniques at this time and the trio opens the Swiss Diagonales Festival with New-York guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel. Voice
The human voice consists of sound made by a human being using the vocal tract, including talking, singing, laughing, crying, screaming, shouting, humming or yelling.
