The Dallas Defenders were a team in the Premier Basketball League (PBL) which began play in 2008. The team played at the Alfred J. Loos Fieldhouse, which was also the part-time home to the Dallas Chaparrals of the original American Basketball Association The American Basketball Association (ABA) was a major men's professional basketball league from 1967 to 1976. The ABA ceased to exist with the ABA–NBA merger, American Basketball Association–National Basketball Association merger in 1976, .... The facility is listed as the seventh-biggest primary/secondary school fieldhouse in the United States. The Premier Basketball League, often abbreviated to the PBL, is an American professional men's basketball minor league that began play in January 2008. The league folded after the 2017 season. It was announced that the league would be revived under new management for the 2020 season. The league announced due coronavirus outbreak the season would be put on hold. The largest high school basketball gyms in the United States refers to gymnasiums primarily used by secondary schools for basketball purposes. 14 of the 16 largest high school gymnasiums are located in the state of Indiana. In March 2019, The Indianapolis Star reported that the Indiana High School Basketball Historical Society had done research through actual on-site counts, conducting personal interviews, and reviewing architectural blueprints to confirm the accuracy of the list of the largest high school gyms in Indiana. This research confirmed a reordering of the top three sites was necessary, moving Seymour's Lloyd E. Scott Gymnasium to the top spot. The previous #1, New Castle's Fieldhouse, was moved to third. Dallas Chaparrals
The Dallas Chaparrals were a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA). The team moved to San Antonio, Texas for the 1973–74 season and were renamed the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs joined the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the 1976–77 NBA season as a result of the ABA–NBA merger. Origin The team's founding owners, unable to agree on a name for the franchise during an early organizational meeting at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel, named it for the Chaparral Club in which they were meeting. The team drew poor attendance and general disinterest in Dallas. They were lucky to attract crowds in the hundreds.
