Dalkey railway station ( ga, Stáisiún Dheilginis) serves Dalkey in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, Ireland. History The station was opened on 10 July 1854 and was closed for goods traffic on 30 March 1964. It was preceded by Dalkey Atmospheric Railway station which opened on 29 March 1844 and closed on 12 April 1854. The ticket office is open between 07:00-10:00 AM, Monday to Friday. Accidents and incidents *On 16 November 1979, a passenger train collided with a stationary passenger train. Thirty-six people were injured. Dalkey
Dalkey ( ; ) is an affluent suburb of Dublin, and a seaside resort southeast of the city, and the town of Dún Laoghaire, in the county of Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown in the historic County Dublin, Ireland. It was founded as a Viking settlement and became an active port during the Middle Ages. According to chronicler John Clyn (c.1286–c.1349), it was one of the ports through which the plague entered Ireland in the mid-14th century. In modern times, Dalkey has become a seaside suburb that attracts some tourist visitors. Killiney Hill
Killiney Hill ( ga, Cnoc Chill Iníon Léinín) is the southernmost of the two hills which form the southern boundary of Dublin Bay, the other being Dalkey Hill. These two hills form part of Killiney Hill Park. Crowned by a monument, Killiney Hill is 153 metres high and has views over the surrounding areas: Dublin to the northwest; the Irish Sea and the mountains of Wales (on a clear day) to the east and southeast; and Bray Head and the Wicklow Mountains to the south. The hill was higher in the past but material was removed from the summit for the construction of the pier at Dún Laoghaire. The obelisk was completed in 1742 and commemorates the victims of the Irish Famine of 1740-41. Sandycove and Glasthule railway station ( ga, Stáisiún Chuas an Ghainimh agus Glas Tuathail) serves the suburban areas of Sandycove (on the coast) and Glasthule (just inland) in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, Ireland. The Dublin Area Rapid Transit system (stylised as DART) is an electrified commuter rail railway network serving the coastline and city of Dublin, Ireland. The service makes up the core of Dublin's suburban railway network, stretching from Greystones, County Wicklow, in the south to Howth and Malahide in north County Dublin. The DART serves 31 stations and consists of 53 route kilometres of electrified railway (46  km double track, 7 km single), and carries in the region of 20 million passengers per year. Killiney railway station ( ga, Stáisiún Chill Iníon Léinín) serves Killiney in County Dublin, Ireland. The station lies on the DART line. The entrance to the station is via Station Road. It is located about two minutes walk to Killiney Beach. History The original station was located on nearby Strathmore Road. The current station opened on 6 May 1882 under the name ''Killiney & Ballybrack'', replacing both Killiney and Ballybrack stations, the ''Ballybrack'' suffix was dropped in 1921. The Dalkey Atmospheric Railway (unofficial opening 19 August 1843, official opening 29 March 1844 – 12 April 1854) was an extension of the Dublin and Kingstown Railway (D&KR) to Atmospheric Road in Dalkey, Co. Dublin, Ireland. It used part of the Dalkey Quarry industrial tramway, which was earlier used for the construction of Kingstown (Dún Laoghaire) Harbour. It was the first commercial railway of its type in the world.
