Dalfsen
Dalfsen (; Dutch Low Saxon: ) is a municipality and a town in the Salland region of the Dutch province of Overijssel. The municipality of Dalfsen was increased to its current size on 1 January 2001 through the amalgamation of the municipalities of Nieuwleusen and Dalfsen. History The name first appears in documents in 1231. Due to the closeness of Kasteel Rechteren, Dalfsen is one of several towns along the Overijssel section of the Vecht river never to have received city rights. Dalfsen Train Crash
The Dalfsen train crash occurred on 23 February 2016 when a passenger train collided with a tracked elevated work platform on a level crossing at Dalfsen, Overijssel, Netherlands. One person was killed and six were injured, one seriously. Accident At 08:50 UTC+1, CET (07:50 coordinated Universal Time, UTC), a passenger train collided with an elevated work platform at Dalfsen, Overijssel, Netherlands. It is reported that the crane from company ''Van den Brink'' in Barneveld (town), Barneveld, was slowly crossing the line when it was hit by the train. It had waited at the crossing while one train passed, but then started to cross and was hit by a second train. The train involved was a Spurt (Dutch Railways), Spurt GTW 2/8 train, travelling from to . All four vehicles were derailed. One person was killed; the driver of the train. Dalfsen Railway Station
Dalfsen is a railway station located in Dalfsen, Netherlands. The station was opened on 15 January 1903 and is located on the Zwolle–Emmen railway. Nieuwleusen
Nieuwleusen (Low Saxon: ''Ni'jlusen'') is a town in the Dutch province of Overijssel with 9300 inhabitants as of 2021. In the 2001 municipal reform, most of the former municipality of Nieuwleusen was incorporated into the municipality of Dalfsen. Some parts of the former municipality, including the Lichtmis area, was added to the neighbouring municipality of Zwolle. Situation The provincial road N377 (the 'Den Hulst') runs along the town, going from Hasselt in the west to Coevorden in the east. To the north are the hamlet of Punthorst and the Staatsbos state woodland in the municipality of Staphorst. South of Nieuwleusen is Dalfsen, a slightly bigger town from which the municipality takes its name. Hoonhorst
Hoonhorst is a village in the municipality of Dalfsen in the province of Overijssel, Netherlands. It is a Catholic enclave in a Protestant area. It located about east of Zwolle. History The village was first mentioned in 1283 as "de Honhorst", and means "height with growth". Hoonhorst developed to the south-west of Dalfsen as a Catholic centre. In 1581, the Catholic faith was outlawed in Overijssel. In 1770, the ''drost'' (chief magistrate) of Salland was petitioned to allow the construction of a Catholic church. Permission was granted to built a church in Hoonhorst as long as it looked like farm on the outside. In 1770, a Catholic church was built in Hoonhorst, and dedicated to Cyriacus. Hoornhorst would still remain a hamlet, and was home to 28 people in the 1795 census. Freedom of religion was restored during the French period (1794-1815). Dalmsholte
Dalmsholte is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is a part of the municipalities of Ommen and Dalfsen, and lies about 18 km east of Zwolle. It was first mentioned between 1381 and 1383 as Dalmeshout. The etymology is unknown. Lemelerveld
Lemelerveld (also: ''Sukerbietndorp'') is a village in the municipality of Dalfsen in the province of Overijssel, Netherlands. The village developed around a sugar beet factory. History The area around Lemelerveld used to consist of wild moorlands and was nearly uninhabited except for some shepherds and the occasional poacher. In 1854, the peat excavation village of Dalmsholte was established. Nearby, at the intersection of the canal from Zwolle to Almelo with the canal from Raalte and Deventer, a sugar beet factory was constructed in 1865. The factory attracted a large work force, and a village developed which was colloquially called "Sukerbietndorp" (Sugar beet village). Kasteel Rechteren
Rechteren Castle ( nl, Kasteel Rechteren) is a Dutch castle situated on an island on side-branch of Overijsselse Vecht river, near the village of Dalfsen. It is the only castle in the province Overijssel from the Middle Ages that still exists. History Originally, Rechteren Castle was owned by the counts of Bentheim. It is first mentioned in 1190. In 1315, it became the property of Herman van Voorst. Through inheritances, it became property of the van Heeckeren, that split into the van Voorst en van Rechteren family. The counts of Rechteren inherited the castle, and it is nowadays still the family's property. The castle is not open to visitors. Egbert Rolf "Erben" Wennemars (born 1 November 1975) is a Dutch former speed skater. He specialized in the sprint and middle distances of 500, 1000 and 1500 meters, and set six world records during his career.
