Callide is a rural town and locality in the Shire of Banana, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Callide had a population of 86 people. Geography The Dawson Highway enters the locality from the east ( Dumgree) and exits to the south-east ( Mount Murchison); it does not pass through or near the town. The Moura railway line enters the locality from the west ( Jambin), passes through the town, and exits the locality to the south (Dakenba). Historically, the town was served by the Callide railway station (), but it is now abandoned. The town of Callide is the south-west of the locality on the boundary with Jambin near the railway station. It has had little development. Mount Murchison, Queensland
Mount Murchison is a rural locality in the Shire of Banana, Queensland, Australia. Geography Callide Power Station is in the south-east of the locality at 1092 Biloela Callide Road (). History Mount Murchison State School opened on 24 April 1935. The new school was built to cater for up to 24 students with a single 18x18 foot classroom with 8 foot verandas front and rear; it was a timber building with a galvanised iron roof and was built on the property of Mr C. G. Skinner. The teacher was Reg Davidson. Callide Power Station commenced operation in 1965. It was officially opened by Queensland Premier Frank Nicklin on 21 August 1965. Moura Railway Line
The Moura railway line is a railway in central Queensland, connecting several coal mines to the port of Gladstone. It connects the remnants of several lines that previously connected to Rockhampton, originally by a rack railway. History The Dawson Valley railway line was built from near Rockhampton, opening in 1898, and the Callide Valley railway line opened in 1917, both having a north–south alignment. In 1953, a spur line opened to serve the Callide Mine, and another to serve the Moura coal mine opened in 1963, both mines shipping coal to Gladstone via Rockhampton, a ~270 km distance. As coal volumes grew a direct line to Gladstone was proposed, and the 151 km Moura Short Line opened in 1968, being the first 'S' (Special) class line in Queensland, with an 18 tonne axle load at the time.
