Dai Rees (rugby Union, Born 1964)
David 'Dai' Rees (born 23 September 1964) is a Welsh former rugby union player. He attained four caps for the Wales B side, and was also a National Squad member in 1986. Rees played club rugby for Abercarn RFC, the South Glamorgan Institute, Swansea RFC, Newport RFC and Newbridge RFC. He later became player/coach at Cross Keys RFC and Head Coach after a knee injury forced his retirement. Rees was Assistant Coach to the Wales U21 side for the 2006–07 season was appointed Head Coach of the Wales Sevens team in October 2005. In May 2006, Rees was appointed as Head Coach to the newly created Wales U20 side, whilst continuing in his role as Wales Sevens Head Coach and assistant coach to the Newport Gwent Dragons. He was Head Coach with Newport RFC but gave up this role at the end of the 2005–2006 season to concentrate on his Dragons coaching duties. Abercarn
Abercarn is a small town and community in Caerphilly county borough, Wales. It is 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Newport on the A467 between Cwmcarn and Newbridge, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire. History An estate at Abercarn was owned by the ironmaster Richard Crawshay; in 1808, it passed to his son-in-law, the industrialist and politician Benjamin Hall. Dragons RFC ( cy, Dreigiau) are one of the four professional rugby union regional teams in Wales. They are owned by the Welsh Rugby Union and play their home games at Rodney Parade, Newport and at other grounds around the region. Wales National Rugby Sevens Team
The Wales national rugby sevens team competes in the World Rugby Sevens Series, the Rugby World Cup Sevens and in the Commonwealth Games. Wales were the World Cup Sevens Champions after winning the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens in the United Arab Emirates. But they relinquished that title after failing to defend their crown at the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow. The Welsh sevens squad was disbanded by the Welsh Rugby Union due to financial constraints. After a three-year absence, the Wales sevens team returned to international competition in the 2006–07 season. They competed at half of the eight tournaments and won the plate competition (fifth place) at each of them. They repeated this feat at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
