Dahlia Elsayed
Dahlia Elsayed (born 1969) is a New York-based painter, writer, and teaching artist whose work explores the relationships between language and landscape. Her work has won awards and been shown at galleries and art institutions internationally. Early life and education Born in New York City, Elsayed grew up in New Jersey. She graduated magna cum laude from Barnard College with a BA degree in English in 1992. In 1994, she received her M.F.A. from Columbia University School of the Arts. Elsayed's mother is Armenians, Armenian and her father is Egyptians, Egyptian. For three generations, her family had to move from continent to continent due to political and religious persecution. Armenian Museum of America (AMA), located in Watertown, Massachusetts, United States, is an institution that has the largest collection of Armenian artifacts in North America. History In 1971, alarmed by the growing loss and destruction of Armenian books and artifacts brought to this country by immigrants from Armenia, a group of talented Greater Boston Armenian-Americans banded together to form AMA to collect and preserve these books and artifacts. Jersey City Museum
The Jersey City Museum was a municipal art museum in Jersey City, New Jersey. The establishment opened in 1901 and was housed in the main branch of the Jersey City Public Library. It relocated to a new building in 2001, but due to financial difficulties and discord with the city, closed to the public in 2010. In 2018, the museum collection was donated to the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University. Aljira, a Center for Contemporary Art was an artist-centered space in Newark, New Jersey, United States founded in 1983, designated a Major Arts Organization by New Jersey's State Council on the Arts. Aljira displayed the work of both established and emerging or under-represented artists. The center also sold books, fine art and prints through an online store, and held an auction of fine art each spring. Its name, an Australian Aboriginal word for dreamtime, was intended to suggest timelessness and open possibilities.
