Daffodil International University
Daffodil International University ( bn, ড্যাফোডিল আন্তর্জাতিক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) (DIU) is a private research university located in Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was established on 24 January 2002 under the Private University Act of 1992 which was replaced by Private University Act 2010. According to QS University Rankings: Asia 2021, DIU is a top-ranked private university among all the universities in Bangladesh. DIU placed 1st among universities ranked from Bangladesh in Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2021. DIU is the first university in Bangladesh to have signed the UN's Commitment to Sustainable Practices of Higher Education Institutions. University Grants Commission ( bn, বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় মঞ্জুরী কমিশন ''Biśbobidyālaẏ mañjurī komiśan'') of Bangladesh was established on 16 December 1972. It was created according to the Presidential Order (P.O. No 10 of 1973) of the Government of People's Republic of Bangladesh. In 2010, the Government of Bangladesh (GOB) announced bringing out reforms in University Grants Commission (UGC) and decided to change UGC into Higher Education Commission of Bangladesh (HEC). Aminul Islam (academic)
Aminul Islam (1 January 1935 – 29 November 2017) was a Bangladeshi academic. He was the President of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences. He was a fellow of the academy since 1978. Early life and education Islam was born on 1 January 1935 in Nagerchar village of Homna Upazila of Comilla District. He completed his B.Sc. (Hons.) in chemistry in 1954 and M.Sc. in Soil Science in 1955 from the University of Dhaka and Ph.D. in Soil Science from Michigan State University in 1962. Career Islam started his teaching career at the University of Dhaka in 1956 and worked at the Department of Soil Science until 1996.
