Daewoo XK10
S&T Daewoo XK9 is a 9×19mm submachine gun manufactured by S&T Daewoo. It was to be used along the Heckler & Koch MP5 in Republic of Korea Armed Forces, ROK military special forces, but was not adopted. According to Jane's, the weapon was supposedly manufactured in 2003 and had the designation DS9A. The XK9 can be mass-produced if there is demand for it. Variants The only known variant is the Daewoo XK10, which has a shorter length by 590 mm with its extended stock and 348 mm if the stock is folded. In addition, it has a barrel length of 134 mm. A submachine gun (SMG) is a magazine-fed, automatic carbine designed to fire handgun cartridges. The term "submachine gun" was coined by John T. Thompson, the inventor of the Thompson submachine gun, to describe its design concept as an automatic firearm with notably less firepower than a machine gun (hence the prefix " sub-"). As a machine gun must fire rifle cartridges to be classified as such, submachine guns are not considered machine guns. The submachine gun was developed during World War I (1914–1918) as a close quarter offensive weapon, mainly for trench raiding. At its peak during World War II (1939–1945), millions of SMGs were made for use by regular troops, clandestine commandos and partisans alike. SNT Motiv Co., Ltd (formerly S&T Motiv and previously Daewoo Precision Industries/S&T Daewoo) is a South Korean firearms and auto parts manufacturer founded in 1981. Its firearms equip most frontline units of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces. History Daewoo Precision Industries Co., Ltd was established in December 1981 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Daewoo to manufacture small arms, and upright/grand pianos under the Sojin and Daewoo brands. The Sojin musical instrument factory of Yeoju, Korea, had been purchased by Daewoo in 1977. Sojin produced guitars, and commenced manufacture of upright pianos in 1976. The 9×19mm Parabellum (also known as 9mm Parabellum or 9mm Luger or simply 9mm) is a rimless, tapered firearms cartridge. Originally designed by Austrian firearm designer Georg Luger in 1901, it is widely considered the most popular handgun and submachine gun cartridge due to its low cost and extensive availability. Blowback is a system of operation for self-loading firearms that obtains energy from the motion of the cartridge case as it is pushed to the rear by expanding gas created by the ignition of the propellant charge. Several blowback systems exist within this broad principle of operation, each distinguished by the methods used to control bolt movement. In most actions that use blowback operation, the breech is not locked mechanically at the time of firing: the inertia of the bolt and recoil , relative to the weight of the bullet, delay opening of the breech until the bullet has left the barrel. The Heckler & Koch MP5 (german: Maschinenpistole 5) is a 9x19mm Parabellum submachine gun, developed in the 1960s by a team of engineers from the German small arms manufacturer Heckler & Koch.
