Dabba (company)
Dabba is a South African company that is pioneering the establishment of village telcos. It uses wireless technology to provide voice and data services to under-serviced areas. Dabba has developed a distributed community based ownership model that encourages local entrepreneurs to provide telephone services not served by fixed line telcos at affordable prices. Dabba was founded by Rael Lissoos & Manish Anant in 2004. He uses reprogrammed Wi-Fi routers as base stations, and open source software to build the components of a telecommunications network. Cheap Wi-Fi handsets are used to make calls. Dabba offers free calls in the area covered by the local network, and calls to 'phones on the national networks using pay-as-you-go cards. The first pilot network is in operation in Orange Farm, Gauteng, a township near Johannesburg Johannesburg ( , , ; Zulu and xh, eGoli ), colloquially known as Jozi, Joburg, or "The City of Gold", is the largest city in South Africa, classified ...

Tiffin Carrier
Tiffin carriers or dabbas are a kind of lunch box used widely in Asia and the Caribbean for tiffin meals. From India, they spread to Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Guyana, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago, where they are now widely used. They are also used extensively in Hungary, primarily to transport restaurant meals for consumption at home. The Hungarian version typically contains soup, a main course, and piece of cake. A very similar device is called ''Henkelmann'' in Germany. It is usually round or oval similar to military mess kits. The ''Henkelmann'' was very popular until the 1960s, but is very rarely used by Germans today. In the Indian city of Mumbai, there is a complex and efficient delivery system that regularly delivers hot lunches packed in ''dabbas'' to city office workers from their suburban homes or from a caterer. It uses delivery workers known as ''dabbawalas''. The book ''Tiffin: An Untold Story'' covers 172 tiffin carriers, some over a century old. Nomencla ...

Beast Of The Earth
Beast of the Earth (), sometimes called The Dabba/Dabbah in Islamic eschatology, will be one of the signs of the coming of the Last Day or Judgement Day. It will appear before or after the sun rises in the west, where the Beast will be sighted for the very first time. The Beast is mentioned in the Quran (in '' Sura'' An-Naml) and is also mentioned in the ''ahadith'', which expand upon the characteristics of the beast. Islamic tradition holds that the Beast will precipitate the death of all true believers and the removal of the Quran from the world. .... The Qur'an mentions that the Beast will address the unbelievers and admonish them for their lack of attention towards God: In the hadith A tradition attributed to Ibn al-Zubayr also describes the Beast carrying the Seal of Solomon and Moses' staff. Some ''ahadith'' say that the Beast will be one of the first major signs of the Last Day, along with the sun rising in the west. The appearance of the Dajjal, rising smoke, and gr ...

Dhaba
A dhaba is a roadside restaurant in the Indian subcontinent, primarily across Pakistan and India. They are on highways, generally serve local cuisine, and also serve as truck stops. They are most commonly found next to petrol stations, and most are open 24 hours a day. Dhabas are a common feature on national and state highways. Earlier frequented only by truck drivers, today eating at a dhaba, whether urban or roadside, is a trend. Etymology The word has been alleged in folk etymology to stem from ''dabba'', m., box, lunch box, tiffin. Dhabas sprung up first on GT Road which ran from Peshawar, Rawalpindi and Lahore through Amritsar, Ludhiana and further to Delhi and Calcutta. There is now a large network of the Indian and Pakistani immigrant communities worldwide, and many have opened dhabas in far lands (such as at service stations on the Trans-Canada Highway network). Dhabas were characterized by mud structures and cots to sit upon (charpai) while eating. A wooden plank w ...
