Daasi (1952 Film)
''Daasi'' () is a 1952 Indian Telugu-language drama film, produced by C. Lakshmi Rajyam under the Rajyam Pictures banner and directed by C. V. Ranganatha Das, while L. V. Prasad has taken care of supervision. It stars N. T. Rama Rao, C. Lakshmi Rajyam and S. V. Ranga Rao, with music composed by C. R. Subburaman & Susarla Dakshina Murthy. The film was later remade in Tamil as ''Velaikari Magal'' by the same banner and director. Plot Ramaiah is a horse-cart driver and his wife Lakshmi works as a maid at the house of a wealthy man, Badrinath. The couple has a son, Subbadu. Badrinath, who is issueless, decides to remarry to have children and is in search of a bride. His wife Parvathamma is advised by her elder brother Ramarao to fake a pregnancy. She reluctantly agrees. Vempati Sadasivabrahmam shortly Sadasivabrahmam () (b: 1905 – d: 1968) was a writer of film stories, dialogues and lyrics in the early period of Telugu cinema.Sadasivabrahmam Vempati, Luminaries of 20th Century, Part II, Potti Sriramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad, 2005, pp: 912–13. He was born in Tuni, East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. He studied Pancha Kavyas and achieved proficiency in Sanskrit and Telugu languages. Pushpavalli
Pushpavalli (3 January 1926 – 28 April 1991) was an Indian actress who predominently worked in Telugu and Tamil films. She entered the film industry as a child actress with a small role as young Sita in the film ''Sampoorna Ramayanam'' (1936). This was followed by a few more roles as child star. Pushpavalli later graduated to doing roles as an adult. Her biggest hit was the Telugu film '' Bala Nagamma'' (1942), where she played an important supporting role. Her 1947 film ''Miss Malini'', where she played the lead role, received great critical acclaim from the intelligentsia, but flopped at the box office. She continued playing supporting roles well into the late 1960s. She married I V Rangachari in 1940 but they began living apart from 1946. Later, Pushpavalli was in a relationship with actor Gemini Ganesan with whom she had two daughters, Rekha and Radha. Her elder daughter is the noted actress in Hindi film industry, Rekha. Pillavalu Gajapathy Krishnaveni (3 November 1935 – 16 August 2004), more famously known as Jikki, was an Indian playback singer from Andhra Pradesh. She sang around 10,000 songs in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and Sinhalese languages. Early life Jikki was born in Chennai on 3 November 1935. Her parents Gajapathi Naidu and Rajakanthamma, a Telugu family, had moved from Chandragiri, near Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh to Chennai for their livelihood. Her uncle, Devaraju Naidu, worked as a music composer with the celebrated Kannada theatre legend and movie pioneer Gubbi Veeranna and this introduced the young Jikki to the music and film world. Acharya Aatreya (born Kilambi Venkata Narasimhacharyulu ) (7 May 1921 – 13 September 1989) was an Indian poet, lyricist, playwright, and screenwriter known for his works in Telugu cinema and Telugu theatre. Suryakantham (28 October 1924 – 18 December 1994) was an Indian actress in Tollywood. She was popular for playing the role of a cruel mother-in-law in most of her movies. Early life Suryakantham was born and brought up in a Telugu Brahmin family residing at Venkata Krishnaraya Puram near Kakinada of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. She was the 14th child to her parents, ten of whose children had died. She learnt dance and singing at the age of six. She married Peddibhotla Chalapati Rao, a High Court Judge, in 1950.
