Daas (2011 Film)
''Daas'' is a 2011 Polish film written and directed by Adrian Panek and starring Andrzej Chyra, Danuta Stenka, Mariusz Bonaszewski and Olgierd Łukaszewicz. This is Panek's first feature work. Film is a period drama that depicts timeless struggle between religion and secular authority, idealism and duplicity, eroticism and faith. ''Daas'' explores the influence of 18th-century messiah claimant Jacob Frank (an authentic figure played by Olgierd Łukaszewicz). Claiming powers of mystical healing and prophecy, Frank promises immortality to his converts. Henryk Klein, a Viennese lawyer (Mariusz Bonaszewski) investigates Frank, and starts to believe that there has been a conspiracy formed that involves some of the most influential people in the Austrian Empire. Adrian Panek
Adrian is a form of the Latin given name Adrianus or Hadrianus. Its ultimate origin is most likely via the former river Adria from the Venetic and Illyrian word ''adur'', meaning "sea" or "water". Andrzej Chyra
Andrzej Chyra (born 27 August 1964) is a Polish actor and a member of the Polish Film Academy and the European Film Academy. Life and career He graduated from high school and in 1987 he graduated from the Acting Theater School in Warsaw. In 1994, he majored at the same university in directing. He made his film debut in 1993, with the role of Benvollo in the film ''Order of Affection'', directed by Radosław Piwowarski. The largest role so far that brought him recognition was as Gerard Nowak in the 1999 film '' The Debt'' (''Dług'') by Krzysztof Krauze, for which he was awarded the Best Actor award at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. Danuta Stenka
Danuta Stenka (born 10 October 1961 in Sierakowice, Poland) is a Polish actress. She is one of the leading Polish film and theatre actresses. Life and career From 1991, she spent a decade working at Teatr Dramatyczny in Warsaw, then at TR Warszawa. She earned critical acclaim for her distinguished roles in Krzysztof Warlikowski's performances (Electra, The Taming of the Shrew, Krum, Angels in America and (A)pollonia). In 2003, she joined the ensemble of the National Theatre in Warsaw, taking on roles with many renowned directors, including Robert Wilson (Lady from the Sea), Grzegorz Jarzyna (Giovanni), and Maja Kleczewska (Phaedra, Marat/Sade, Oresteia). Jacob Joseph Frank ( he, יעקב פרנק; pl, Jakub Józef Frank; born Jakub Lejbowicz; 1726 – December 10, 1791) was a Polish Jews, Polish-Jewish religious leader who claimed to be the reincarnation of the self-proclaimed messiah Sabbatai Zevi (1626–1676) and also of the biblical patriarch Jacob. The Jewish authorities in Poland excommunicated Frank and his followers due to his heretical doctrines that included deification of himself as a part of a trinity and other controversial concepts such as neo-Carpocratian "purification through transgression".
