DXWP-TV, channel 5, is a television station of Southern TV Industries and affiliate of People's Television Network. Its studio, transmitter and broadcast facility is located at Pioneer Avenue, General Santos City. Currently the station is inactive. DXBG-TV, Channel 8 (analog) and Channel 34 (digital), is a local commercial television station owned and operated by GMA Network Inc. Its studio and transmitter are located at Nuñez St., Brgy. San Isidro, General Santos City. History GMA General Santos began its broadcast on Channel 5 ( DXWP-TV) as an affiliate of Southern TV Industries from 1985 to 1992. GMA General Santos transferred its current regional station to Channel 8 as an owned-and-operated station in 1992 and became a relay station delivering programs from Metro Manila via DZBB-TV. Usually unlike dead air (broadcasting only silence), a station that is dark or silent does not even transmit a carrier signal. The National Media Production Center (NMPC) was a government-owned media agency in the Philippines that existed during the regime of then-President Ferdinand Marcos. Like any government departments, it was then headed by a Secretary, and later by a Minister. History The NMPC was started out before the time of martial law when they acquired the facilities of the Voice of America in Malolos, Bulacan in 1965 and steadily brought the old complex up to standards by a steady overhaul, fine-tuning, and outright replacement of outmoded equipment and machines. Francisco "Kit" Sarmiento Tatad (born October 4, 1939) is a Filipino journalist and politician best known for having served as Minister of Public Information under President Ferdinand Marcos from 1969 to 1980, and for serving as a Senator of the Philippines from 1992 to 2001.
