DWRT (99.5 FM), on-air as 99.5 Play FM (stylized as ''PL>Y''), is a 24-hour radio station owned and operated by Real Radio Network Inc. It is one of the partner stations of Tiger 22 Media. Its studio is located at Unit 906-B, Paragon Plaza Building, EDSA corner Reliance St., Mandaluyong, and its transmitter is located at Palos Verdes, Antipolo. History 1976–2006: The first 99.5 RT Trans-Radio Broadcasting Corporation was established in 1971 by Emilio Tuason after he acquired the AM radio franchise ( 980 kHz) of Transit Broadcasting Corporation, owned by the Vergara family. Under Trans-Radio, the AM station adopted the call sign DZTR-AM “Radyo Pilipino” (which is not anyway related to the eponymous AM radio network owned by the Radio Corporation of the Philippines). Seona Dancing
Seona Dancing (, ) were a 1980s British new wave group, best known for providing comedian Ricky Gervais with his first experiences as a public performer. Although the band experienced little chart success, their single "More to Lose" went on to become a teen anthem in the Philippines. History While studying at University College London, Ricky Gervais and his friend Bill Macrae formed Seona Dancing, with Macrae writing the music and playing keyboards, and Gervais writing and singing the lyrics. After recording a sixteen-song demo tape, they were signed by London Records, which released two of their singles: "More to Lose" and " Bitter Heart". "More to Lose" is the debut single by English new wave duo Seona Dancing, released in 1983. It is an uptempo new wave pop song, sung by a then-unknown Ricky Gervais, who was the lyricist and vocalist of the band. Bill Macrae was the band's composer and keyboard player. The song remains virtually unknown in their homeland of the UK, after only peaking at No. 117 on the UK Singles Chart, but found tremendous success in the Philippines in 1985, a year after the band broke up. Success in the Philippines In 1985, DWRT-FM started playing the song, deliberately misnaming it as "Fade" by Medium (also billed as "Medium" by Fade), to prevent other rival stations finding the song and playing it for themselves. To make it impossible for other DJs to record the song and play it on their own station, DWRT-FM even inserted a station ID midway through the track. DWRT-AM (990 kHz Metro Manila) was an AM music radio station owned and operated by Trans-Radio Broadcasting Corporation in the Philippines. Since September 9, 2010, the 990 kHz frequency has been airing under the call sign DZIQ-AM, through a blocktime arrangement. History The first AM station owned by Trans-Radio Broadcasting Corporation was 980 kHz, which was acquired from Transit Broadcasting Corporation in 1971. Under Trans-Radio, the station became known as DZTR - Radyo Pilipino. DZTR was a music AM station and features celebrities such as Vilma Santos, Tirso Cruz III, German Moreno and others. On September 5, 1976, the station signed off to pave way for the launch of 99.5 RT the following day. New Wave Music
