DVD Dream
The DVD (common abbreviation for Digital Video Disc or Digital Versatile Disc) is a digital media, digital optical disc data storage format. It was invented and developed in 1995 and first released on November 1, 1996, in Japan. The medium can store any kind of digital data and has been widely used for video programs (watched using DVD players) or formerly for storing software and other computer files as well. DVDs offer significantly higher storage capacity than compact discs (CD) while having the same dimensions. A standard DVD can store up to 4.7 Gigabyte, GB of storage, while variants can store up to a maximum of 17.08 GB. Prerecorded DVDs are mass-produced using Injection molding machine, molding machines that physically stamp data onto the DVD. Such discs are a form of DVD-ROM because data can only be read and not written or erased. Sony Digital Audio Disc Corporation (Sony DADC) is a manufacturer of CDs, DVDs, Universal Media Disc, UMDs, and Blu-ray Discs. The company has many plants worldwide. Although it primarily services Sony Music Entertainment-owned record labels, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and Sony Interactive Entertainment, it also manufactures discs for other labels, home entertainment distributors, and video game publishers. Sony DADC's first plant, in Terre Haute, Indiana, opened May 2, 1983, and produced its first CD, Bruce Springsteen's ''Born in the U.S.A.'', in September 1984. It was the first CD manufacturer in the United States, is the company's principal CD manufacturing facility, and is the company's research and development center. The plant was initially a subsidiary of CBS/Sony Corporate group, Group, but Sony bought out CBS's stake in October 1985.
