Del Mar, California
Del Mar (; Spanish for "Of the Sea") is a beach town in San Diego County, California, located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Established in 1885 as a seaside resort, the city incorporated in 1959. The Del Mar Horse Races are hosted on the Del Mar racetrack every summer. In 1885, Colonel Jacob Taylor purchased from Enoch Talbert, with visions of building a seaside resort for the rich and famous. The United States Navy operated a Naval Auxiliary Air Facility for blimps at Del Mar during World War II. The population was 3,954 at the 2020 census, down from 4,161 at the 2010 census. The town has a wealthy population along the coast and the bluffs above the ocean. However, these properties are very vulnerable to climate change, which has caused sea level rise and subsequent coastal erosion; already transportation infrastructure has been under threat. Del Mar High School
Del Mar High School (DMHS) is a four-year, public secondary school established in 1959 in San Jose, California. It is part of the Campbell Union High School District, (CUHSD), the other schools in which are Branham, Leigh High School, Leigh, Prospect High School (California), Prospect, and Westmont High School (Campbell, California), Westmont. Most of Del Mar’s students come from the Campbell Union School District’s Monroe Middle School. Alexander Del Mar
Alexander del Mar (aka Alexander Del Mar and Alexander Delmar; August 9, 1836 – July 1, 1926) was an American political economist, historian, numismatist and author. In business affairs he was frequently referred to in contemporary reports and newspapers as Delmar; however, many of his published works appeared under the name of del Mar. He sometimes appended the letters C.E. and/or M.E. (respectively "Civil Engineer" and "Mining Engineer") to his name. He was the first Director of the Bureau of Statistics at the U.S. Treasury Department from 1866–69.The US Treasury Department's Bureau of Statistics (1866–1903) should not be confused with the Bureau of Statistics of the US State Department (1874–1897). Jonathan Del Mar (born 7 January 1951) is a British music editor and conductor. Biography Jonathan Del Mar was born in London in 1951; his father was conductor Norman Del Mar. He studied at Christ Church, Oxford and the Royal College of Music in London. Norman Del Mar
Norman René Del Mar CBE (31 July 19196 February 1994) was a British conductor, horn player, and biographer. As a conductor, he specialised in the music of late romantic composers; including Edward Elgar, Gustav Mahler, and Richard Strauss. He left a great legacy of recordings of British music, in particular Elgar, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Frederick Delius, and Benjamin Britten. He notably conducted the premiere recording of Britten's children's opera ''Noye's Fludde''. Life and career Born in Hampstead, London, Del Mar began his career as a horn player. Walter Del Mar (May 28, 1862, New York City – April 10, 1944, New York City) was a banker, stock broker, journalist, world traveller, and author of travel books. His father was the economist and historian Alexander Del Mar, a New Yorker from a Marrano family. Walter Del Mar had thirteen siblings, of whom two sisters and four brothers survived to adulthood. During the early 1890s he was a financial correspondent in London. There he established his own banking firm, which became the London representative for several important American companies. In the first decade of the 20th century he travelled extensively in Asia and wrote three books about his travels. In 1914 he returned to New York City and lived there until his death in 1944. "Del Mar" (; ) is a song by Puerto Rican singer Ozuna, American rapper and singer Doja Cat and Australian singer-songwriter Sia. The track was released as part of Ozuna's fourth studio album ''ENOC'' on September 4, 2020, and was later sent to radio as the album's sixth single in October 2020. Viña del Mar (; meaning "Vineyard of the Sea") is a city and commune on central Chile's Pacific coast.
