DCide
DCide is a privately held, Washington, D.C. based independent record label and distributor. The label was started in summer of 1995 by founding partners Jeffrey B. Clyburn, Burton Gray and Mark Thorp. Their first act Nothingface sold over 500,000 records worldwide and is widely recognized as one of the standard-bearers for the new metal genre. In 2002, DCide entered into a partnership with Geffen Records to release the debut record from TRUSTcompany out of Montgomery, Alabama. TRUSTcompany's guitar driven rock evokes memories of the Smashing Pumpkins with Deftones-like vocal stylings and bottom heavy riffing reminiscent of Led Zeppelin. TRUSTcompany enjoyed both critical and commercial success as their debut album "The Lonely Position of Neutral" went on to be certified Gold. TRUSTcompany’s sophomore record "True Parallels" was released by DCide/Geffen in March 2005. Nothingface (band)
Nothingface was an American alternative metal band from Washington, D.C., formed in 1993. Their best-known and most prolific line-up consisted of Matt Holt (vocals), Tom Maxwell (guitar), Bill Gaal (bass) and Chris Houck (drums). They disbanded in 2004, only to reform the following year, reuniting with Gaal and Houck, and then disband four years later. In 2017, Matt Holt died from a degenerative disease. Shabazz Palaces
Shabazz Palaces is an American hip hop group from Seattle led by Ishmael Butler a.k.a. Palaceer Lazaro (formerly Butterfly of jazz rap group Digable Planets). Much of the Butler's work as Shabazz Palaces has been made in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Tendai "Baba" Maraire, son of mbira master Dumisani Maraire. Active since 2009, Shabazz Palaces has released five studio albums on Sub Pop after self-releasing two EPs. Their most recent album, ''The Don of Diamond Dreams'', was released on April 17, 2020. Ariyan Arslani (born December 2, 1983), professionally known as Action Bronson, is an American rapper, songwriter, chef, wrestler, exotic olive oil taster, and television presenter. Born and raised in Queens, New York, he embarked on his musical career in January 2011, with the mixtape ''Bon Appetit ..... Bitch''. Digable Planets () is an American hip hop trio formed in 1987. The trio is composed of rappers Ishmael "Butterfly" Butler, Mariana "Ladybug Mecca" Vieira, and Craig "Doodlebug" Irving. The group is notable for their contributions to the subgenres of jazz rap and alternative hip hop. History Origins Butler and Irving met in Philadelphia in the late 1980s. Originally from Seattle, Butler was interning at Sleeping Bag Records in New York and would visit his grandmother in Philadelphia, where he met local native Irving, who was rapping with a group called the Dread Poets Society. It was released on July 22, 2002 internationally and on July 23, 2002, in the United States; a version including two bonus tracks was released on February 19, 2003. ''True Parallels'' is the second studio album by American rock band Trust Company. Originally to be released in 2004, the release date was pushed back to March 21, 2005, internationally and on March 22, 2005, in the United States. Despite little promotion from their label, the album entered the ''Billboard'' album charts at number 32 and has gone on to sell in excess of 200,000 copies. Background Trust Company was originally scheduled to play at Ozzfest 2003, but canceled to focus on finishing ''True Parallels''.
