DCU Saints (basketball)
St. Vincent's Basketball Club is an Irish basketball club based in Dublin. The club's senior men's team competes in the Super League. History Basketball was first introduced in a school yard of St. Vincent's C.B.S. by Brother O'Farrell in 1958. The sport took off in 1961, and in September 1962, St. Vincent's Basketball Club registered with the ABBA. The Irish National League was created in 1973, with St. Vincent's winning their first league title in 1979. The team won two more league titles in 1993–94 and 2005–06. The team also won National Cup titles in 1984, 1993 and 1994. In 1999, the team won their fifth National Championship. For the 2000–01 season, the team was known as O'Hagan Saints. The Super League (formerly known as SuperLeague and Premier League) is the top tier men's basketball league in Ireland. The league has 14 teams (13 in the Republic of Ireland and one in Northern Ireland). The league is an active member of Basketball Ireland, which is recognised by FIBA (also known as the International Basketball Federation) as the national governing body for basketball in Ireland. Dublin City University (abbreviated as DCU) ( ga, Ollscoil Chathair Bhaile Átha Cliath) is a university based on the Northside of Dublin, Ireland. Created as the ''National Institute for Higher Education, Dublin'' in 1975, it enrolled its first students in 1980, and was elevated to university status (along with the NIHE Limerick, now the University of Limerick) in September 1989 by statute. Super League (Ireland) Teams
The Super League (officially known as the Betfred Super League due to sponsorship from Betfred and legally known as Super League Europe), is the top-level of the British rugby league system. At present the league consists of twelve teams, of which eleven are from Northern England, reflecting the sport's geographic heartland within the UK, and one from southern France. The Super League began in 1996, replacing the existing Rugby Football League Championship First Division, First Division and, significantly, switching from a traditional winter season to a summer season.
