D. Lindley Sloan
D. Lindley Sloan (April 3, 1874 – May 13, 1962) was an American jurist who served as chief judge of the supreme court of the U.S. state of Maryland, the Court of Appeals. Early life D. Lindley Sloan was born on April 3, 1874, in Pekin, Allegany County, Maryland to James M. Sloan and Ella Frederick Sloan. He received his early education from the public schools of Lonaconing. The Supreme Court of Maryland is the state supreme court, highest court of the U.S. state of Maryland. Its name was changed on December 14, 2022, from the Maryland Court of Appeals, after a voter-approved change to the state constitution. The Maryland State Archives serves as the central depository for government records of permanent value. Its holdings date from Maryland's founding in 1634, and include colonial and state executive, legislative, and judicial records; county probate, land, and court records; church records; business records; state publications and reports; and special collections of private papers, maps, photographs, and newspapers. The term is a metonym for the line (or "bar") that separates the parts of a courtroom reserved for spectators and those reserved for participants in a trial such as lawyers. Carroll Bond
Carroll T. Bond (June 13, 1873 – January 18, 1943) was an American jurist who served as chief judge of the supreme court of the U.S. state of Maryland, the Court of Appeals. Early life Carroll T. Bond was born on June 13, 1873, in Baltimore, Maryland to Elizabeth (née Lyon) and James Bond, and attended Lamb's School and Phillips Exeter Academy as a youth. He received his B.A. degree from Harvard University in 1894, and his LL.B. degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1896. He was admitted to the Maryland Bar the same year. He never married. Bond served in the Maryland National Guard from 1896 to 1899, during the Spanish–American War.
