D. D. Karunaratne
Meneripitiya Appuhamillage Don David Karunaratne was a Ceylonese politician. Karunaratne was elected to parliament at the 1st parliamentary election, representing the United National Party (UNP), for the Gampaha electorate. He secured 11,786 votes (38% of the total vote), 3,370 votes ahead of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party candidate, C. A. Mathew, who received 27% of the total vote. Karunaratne had two daughters, Chandra Charlotte and Edith. Chandra married Percy Jayakoda, who was the MP for Divulapitiya. Karunaratne was a wealthy landowner in the Gampaha District, owning a number of coconut and rubber plantations. Kala Keerthi Sembuge Gamini Shelton Fonseka () (21 March 1936 - 30 September 2004 as ගාමිණී ෆොන්සේකා), was a Sri Lankan film actor, film director and politician. Often considered as the Greatest Actor in the Sinhala Cinema, Fonseka dominated the cinema in 1960s and 1970s to bagged Best Actor award in multiple times. Walauwa or walawwa is the name given to a feudal/Colony, colonial manor house in Sri Lanka of a Native headmen of Ceylon, native headmen. It also refers to the feudal social systems that existed during the colonial era. The term walauwa is derived from the Tamil language, Tamil word ''valavu'', which denotes a compound or garden, and by implication, a large house with aristocratic connotations. The pinnacle of walauwas in the Sinhala social stratum is the ''wasala walauwa''. Wasala is derived from the Tamil ''vaasal'', which means an entrance.
