Córdoba (Albéniz)
''Córdoba'', Op. 232, No. 4, is a composition by Isaac Albéniz. It was originally written for piano as part of '' Chants d'Espagne'' and was published in 1898. Since it has been transcribed for guitar by Miguel Llobet, it has become one of the staples of classical guitar music. Isaac Albéniz
Isaac Manuel Francisco Albéniz y Pascual (; 29 May 1860 – 18 May 1909) was a Spanish virtuoso pianist, composer, and conductor. He is one of the foremost composers of the Post-Romantic era who also had a significant influence on his contemporaries and younger composers. He is best known for his piano works based on Spanish folk music idioms. Isaac Albéniz was close to the Generation of '98. Transcriptions of many of his pieces, such as ''Asturias (Leyenda)'', ''Granada'', ''Sevilla'', '' Cadiz'', '' Córdoba'', '' Cataluña'', ''Mallorca'', and Tango in D, are important pieces for classical guitar, though he never composed for the guitar. The personal papers of Albéniz are preserved in, among other institutions, the Library of Catalonia. Chants D'Espagne
''Chants d'Espagne'', Op. 232, ( es, Cantos de España, links=no, English: Songs of Spain) is a suite of originally three, later five pieces for the piano by Isaac Albéniz. ''Prélude'' (later known as Asturias (Leyenda)), ''Orientale'' and ''Sous le palmier'' were published in 1892, and ''Córdoba'' and ''Seguidillas'' were added in the 1898 edition. According to Günter Schulze, "Many... f the workshave the flavor of the flamenco so beloved of Albéniz." Historically this suite, and the first three pieces, are usually referred to by their French names, but some recordings give the titles in Spanish. Miguel Llobet
Miguel Llobet Solés (18 October 187822 February 1938) was a classical guitarist, born in Barcelona, Spain. Llobet was a renowned virtuoso who toured Europe and America extensively. He made well known arrangements of Catalan folk songs for the solo guitar, made famous arrangements for the guitar of the piano compositions of Isaac Albéniz, arrangements immortalized by Andrés Segovia, and was also the composer of original works. Biography Some details of Llobet's biography are confused and contradictory. The son of a gilder, he was baptized in the month of his birth in the church of ''Sant Just i Pastor'' on the ''Carrer de la Palma de Sant Just'', the street where he spent his boyhood, just a few streets from the ''Carrer Gignàs'', which (from 1884 through 1885) was the residence of his eventual teacher Francisco Tárrega. John Williams (guitarist)
John Christopher Williams (born 24 April 1941) is an Australian virtuosic classical guitarist renowned for his ensemble playing as well as his interpretation and promotion of the modern classical guitar repertoire. In 1973, he shared a Grammy Award in the Best Chamber Music Performance category with fellow guitarist Julian Bream for ''Together'' (released in the US as ''Julian and John (Works by Lawes, Carulli, Albéniz, Granados)'').
