Cyril Bennett
John Cyril Bennett (June 21, 1891 – 1957) was a British-born American architect. Early life Bennett was born in Hereford, England. Career As an architech, Bennett designed several buildings in Pasadena, California, including the Pasadena Playhouse, the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, the Raymond Theatre in Pasadena, California, and the house at 1155 North Hill Avenue. Personal life On April 16, 1913, Bennett married Olivia Cobb. In 1955, Bennett became a naturalized U.S. citizen. Hereford
Hereford () is a cathedral city, civil parish and the county town of Herefordshire, England. It lies on the River Wye, approximately east of the border with Wales, south-west of Worcester and north-west of Gloucester. The Pasadena Playhouse is a historic performing arts venue located 39 S. El Molino Avenue in Pasadena, California, United States. The 686-seat auditorium produces a variety of cultural and artistic events, professional shows, and community engagements each year. History Beginning around 1912, the period known as the Little Theatre Movement developed in cities and towns across the United States. The artistic community that founded the Pasadena Playhouse was started in 1916 when actor-director Gilmor Brown began producing a series of plays at a renovated burlesque theatre with his troupe "The Gilmor Brown Players". The Pasadena Convention Center is a convention center in Pasadena, California. It consists of three buildings. Pasadena Civic Auditorium The Civic Auditorium, one of the major structures in the Pasadena Civic Center District, was built in 1931 and is best known for being the home for the Emmy Awards from 1977 until 1997. It was designed by architects George Bergstrom, George Edwin Bergstrom, Cyril Bennett, and Fitch Haskell. Today, the Auditorium is home to the People's Choice Awards and the former home of the Pasadena Symphony and POPS, Pasadena Symphony Orchestra. Raymond Theatre (Pasadena, California)
Raymond Theatre (formerly Perkins Palace) is an auditorium located in Pasadena, California, built around 1921. It was known as Perkins Palace when it was a live music venue from 1979 through 1991. In addition to being a popular music venue, it was featured in several films and music videos during the 1980s. Artists that recorded and released live shows at Perkins Palace include Phil Collins, RATT, Dave Mason, and New Grass Revival. A group known as Friends of the Raymond Theatre, including promoter Gina Zamparelli, has advocated keeping the Raymond Theatre as a performing arts venue. They were looking for a buyer in 2006. In 2009, the theater's exterior was restored while the interior was converted to mixed use residential and retail. The theater's auditorium was also restored. George Bergstrom
George Edwin Bergstrom (March 12, 1876 – June 17, 1955) was an American architect who designed The Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia. Biography George Edwin Bergstrom was born in Neenah, Wisconsin, of Norwegian immigrant ancestry. His father, George O. Bergstrom, was a prominent businessman and local politician and his childhood home, now known as the George O. Bergstrom House, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. He attended Phillips-Andover Academy, and was in the Yale University class of 1896. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1899. Bergstrom settled in Los Angeles, California, in 1901. In 1903, he married the former Nancy Kimberly, daughter of John A. Kimberly, a co-founder of Kimberly-Clark.
