Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. The receiving team must not let the ball be grounded within their court. The team may touch the ball up to three times to return the ball to the other side of the court, but individual players may not touch the ball twice consecutively. ... Cyprus Volleyball Federation
Cyprus Volleyball Federation (CVF) (Greek: Kυπριακή Oμοσπονδία Πετοσφαίρισης, Κ.Ο.ΠΕ) ( tr, Kıbrıs Voleybol Federasyonu (KVF)) is the governing body of volleyball in Cyprus. It organises the first division, second division leagues and a cup competition. Before the Federation's establishment Volleyball first made its appearance in Cyprus in 1920 and was first included as a competitive event in the 1928 Pancyprian Games. After the World War II it was played a lot at schools and a Student Championship was established. The Local Committee of SEGAS Cyprus (SEGAS is the sports governing body of Greece) was founded in 1947 and established annual championships between the Gymnastic Clubs and then between those clubs that had a volleyball section. A representative team of Cyprus was invited in 1953 in Egypt to play against Greek and Egyptian teams of Cairo and Alexandria. APOEL VC
APOEL Volleyball Club is a professional volleyball team based in the city of Nicosia, Cyprus and it is a part of the APOEL multi-sport club. History APOEL was formed in 1926, but the volleyball team was formed in 1928. APOEL was also a founding member of the Cyprus Volleyball Federation. The volleyball team of APOEL won 11 championships (4 held by the Cypriot Local Committee for Sports and 7 held by the Cyprus Volleyball Federation) and 5 Cups. The 1980s was the most successful decade for the team, winning 6 Championships and 5 Cups between 1979 and 1985. Also, the decade of the 1990s was amazing for the youth teams of APOEL (U15, U17, U21) by winning 16 trophies in just 7 years. Since then, the team had some good seasons with participation in 2003–04 CEV Top Teams Cup and 2004–05 CEV Cup, but without any title outcome. PAEEK ( el, ΠΑΕΕΚ; short for Ποδοσφαιρική Αθλητική Ένωση Επαρχίας Κερύνειας, ''Podosfairiki Athlitiki Enosi Eparxeias Kerynias'', translated as "Football and Sport Union of Kyrenia District", literally "Footballing Sportive Union of the District of Kyrenia") is a Cypriot sports club founded in Kyrenia in 1953 by graduates of Kyrenia Gymnasium and represented the first force to be reckoned from the small city. Anorthosis Famagusta Volleyball, known as Anorthosis Volley for short, is the volleyball team of Anorthosis Famagusta, temporarily based in Limassol. Founded in 1928, it is one of the oldest volleyball clubs in Cyprus. Anorthosis have the most title wins in Cyprus, with 21 Cypriot Championship titles and 16 Cypriot Cup titles. The sport made its appearance in Famagusta in the 1920s with instructor and professor of gymnastics, Anastassis Economides. Olympiakos Nicosia ( el, Ολυμπιακός Λευκωσίας, ''Olympiakos Lefkosias'') is a football club based in Nicosia, Cyprus and competes in the Cypriot First Division. The club was founded in 1931, and is a founding member of the Cyprus Football Association. The club colors are black and green. Nea Salamis Famagusta VC or Nea Salamina Famagusta VC ( el, Νέα Σαλαμίς Αμμοχώστου) is a professional volleyball team based in Ammochostos (also known by its Romanization of Greek, romanized name, Famagusta), Cyprus. It has been a refugee club since the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, when Turkey occupied the northern part of the island. The club is temporarily based in Limassol.
