Cwmtwrch RFC
Cwmtwrch Rugby Football Club (Welsh: Clwb Rygbi Cwmtwrch) is a Welsh rugby union team officially founded in 1890. The team colours are black and white. Their home ground is Glyncynwal Park View, Cwmtwrch. Cwmtwrch currently have a Senior XV who play in the WRU Three West Central C league and is a feeder club for the Ospreys. Cwmtwrch also have a very promising junior section from under-7s up to under-16s. Part of the Cwmtwrch RFC junior section consists of a merge with two other local junior sections that are Cwmgors RFC and Abercrave RFC called the Valley Dragons. Cwmtwrch
Cwmtwrch () is a village in the valley of the Afon Twrch, a right-bank tributary to the Swansea Valley, Wales, some 15 miles north of Swansea. It is also the name of an electoral ward to Powys County Council. Actors Craig Russell, Richard Corgan and Steven Meo all come from the village. History and origins The name Cwmtwrch (meaning ''Valley of the wild boar'') derives from the "Twrch Trwyth", a mythical wild boar of King Arthur's legends and the ancient Welsh folklore tales of the Mabinogion in early Welsh literature. Clwb Rygbi Cwmgors ( en, Cwmgors RFC) is a rugby union club that represents the villages of Cwmgors, Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen and Tairgwaith, South West Wales. Cwmgors RFC is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union and is a feeder club for the Ospreys. Curwen Stars Although Cwmgors RFC did not come into existence until 1927 rugby had been played in the town from 1895. A team called the All Blacks was formed in the town in 1895, this team would later change its name to the Curwen Stars. The Curwen Stars joined the Llanelli and District Rugby Union in 1900, and eventually joined the Welsh Rugby Union in 1913. In 1923 a second team formed in the village, made up from members of the Cwmgors Colliery called the 'Mond' team, named after the owner of the colliery Alfred Mond. The 'Mond' boasts future Welsh captain Claude Davey as one of its players. In 1927 both the Curwen Stars and the Mond disbanded and severed all union connections. Abercrave RFC
Abercrave Rugby Football Club (Welsh: Clwb Rygbi Abercraf) is a Welsh rugby union team from Abercraf, which was founded in 1894. Abercrave currently have a Senior XV who play in the WRU Division Five South West league and is a feeder club for the Ospreys. Abercrave RFC host several teams, and as well as the Senior XV, have a Second XV, Youth team and multiple junior sections. Club history Founded in 1894, the founding team that would become Abercrave RFC began playing on a field opposite the local church. The first team switched pitches several times before settling on a field behind the Lamb and Flag Inn. As with the majority of village teams in Wales, the club disbanded during the First World War, but reformed in 1919, using the Red Lion Inn as their unofficial headquarters. Howell Lewis
Howell Lewis (24 May 1888 – 29 May 1971) was a Welsh international rugby union wing who played club rugby for Swansea Rugby Football Club and was capped for Wales on four occasions. Lewis was also part of the Swansea team that beat the touring South Africa team in 1912. Rugby career Lewis joined Swansea in 1910 and in 1912 was part of the team that faced the touring South Africa national rugby union team. Swansea won the game by a single try, made more impressive by the fact that Lewis was off the field for a quarter of the match. During the game, Lewis took a blow on the bridge of his nose and when he confronted the perpetrator took another blow to his chest which staggered him. Lewis was removed from play to receive treatment, but no action was taken against South Africa. While Lewis was off the pitch, George Hayward was forced to switch to the wing, as substitutions were not part of the rules. Clive Rowlands
Clive Rowlands OBE (born 14 May 1938) is a former Welsh rugby union footballer and later coach. Rowlands was born in Upper Cwmtwrch. As recorded in the preface for the book 'The Children of Craig-Y-Nos', Rowlands was admitted in 1947, as an eight-year-old, to Craig-y-nos TB hospital in Breconshire. He was given a rugby ball as a gift and accidentally kicked it through a glass door, for which he was put in a straitjacket for a week. A teacher by profession, he played club rugby at scrum-half for Abercraf, Pontypool, Llanelli and Swansea. He captained Pontypool in the 1962 – 63 season, and captained Swansea in the 1967–1968 season Unusually, his first cap for Wales against England in 1963 was as captain, a position which he retained for his next 13 caps between 1963 and 1965, leading Wales to their first Triple Crown victory since 1952. Jac Morgan
Jac Morgan (born 21 January 2000) is a Welsh rugby union player. Morgan plays in the backrow. He plays rugby for the Ospreys. Early life Morgan was born in Sketty, Wales. He gave up a mechanical engineering apprenticeship to pursue professional rugby union. Club career Morgan came through the Scarlets academy and made his debut in the Challenge Cup clash with London Irish in November 2019. Morgan then scored his first professional try in the Pro 14 defeat to Ulster. After returning from a knee injury in February, Morgan crossed for two tries in a man-of-the-match display against Benetton, before putting in 25 tackles to help the Scarlets claim a crucial victory over Edinburgh.
