Abercrave RFC
Abercrave Rugby Football Club (Welsh: Clwb Rygbi Abercraf) is a Welsh rugby union team from Abercraf, which was founded in 1894. Abercrave currently have a Senior XV who play in the WRU Division Five South West league and is a feeder club for the Ospreys. Abercrave RFC host several teams, and as well as the Senior XV, have a Second XV, Youth team and multiple junior sections. Club history Founded in 1894, the founding team that would become Abercrave RFC began playing on a field opposite the local church. The first team switched pitches several times before settling on a field behind the Lamb and Flag Inn. As with the majority of village teams in Wales, the club disbanded during the First World War, but reformed in 1919, using the Red Lion Inn as their unofficial headquarters. The club playing field changed again, and until 1945 the team played on grounds beside the River Tawe. Abercraf
Abercraf ( en, Abercrave) is a village within the historic boundaries of the county of Brecknockshire, Wales, administered as part of the unitary authority of Powys, and in the community of Ystradgynlais. Between 1965 and 1991, the village was the location of a Royal Observer Corps monitoring bunker, to be used in the event of a nuclear attack. It remains mostly intact. Location Abercraf lies in the extreme south of the county, in the Upper Swansea Valley 2.5 miles (4 km) northeast of the small town of Ystradgynlais. The Welsh Rugby Union Division Five South West (also called the SWALEC Division Five South West for sponsorship reasons) is a rugby union league in Wales first implemented for the 1995/96 season. Competition format and sponsorship Competition There are 11 clubs in the WRU Division Five South West. During the course of a season (which lasts from September to May) each club plays the others twice, once at their home ground and once at that of their opponents for a total of 20 games for each club, with a total of 110 games in each season. Teams receive four points for a win and two point for a draw, an additional bonus point is awarded to either team if they score four tries or more in a single match. No points are awarded for a loss though the losing team can gain a bonus point for finishing the match within seven points of the winning team. The River Tawe (; cy, Afon Tawe ) is a long river in South Wales. Its headwaters flow initially east from its source below Llyn y Fan Fawr south of Moel Feity in the Black Mountains, the westernmost range of the Brecon Beacons National Park, before the river turns south and then southwest to its estuary at Swansea. Adam Rhys Jones (born 8 March 1981) is a Welsh former professional international rugby union player for and the British & Irish Lions. Morgan Edward Morgan (18 December 1913 – 16 April 1978) was a Welsh international prop who played club rugby for Swansea and international rugby for both Wales and the British Lions.
