Curt Stalder
Curt Stalder (born November 20, 1957) is an American former professional tennis player. A California native, Stalder played collegiate tennis for the UC Irvine Anteaters and won an NCAA Division II doubles championship in 1977. On the professional tour he had a best singles world ranking of 235 and was a main draw qualifier for the 1979 Jack Kramer Open in Los Angeles, losing in the second round to Víctor Pecci. Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. UC Irvine Anteaters
The UC Irvine Anteaters (referred to Anteaters) are the athletic teams fielded by the University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine). Its athletics programs participate in the NCAA's Division I, as members of the Big West Conference and the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. For earlier years of the school's existence, the teams participated at the Division II level with great success as explained below. NCAA Men's Division II Tennis Championship
The NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship is an annual men's college tennis national collegiate championship sponsored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for teams in Division II. Unlike the championships for Division I and Division III, this tournament crowns only a team champion. Individual and doubles titles were contested from 1963 to 1994 before being discontinued. The 1979 Jack Kramer Open, also known as the Pacific Southwest Open, was a men's tennis tournament played on indoor carpet courts at the Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, California in the United States. The event was part of the Grand Prix tennis circuit. It was the 53rd edition of the Pacific Southwest tournament and was held from September 17 through September 23, 1979. Víctor Pecci Sr. (born October 15, 1955) is a former professional tennis player from Paraguay. He was ranked as high as world No. 9 in singles in 1980 and world No. 31 in doubles in 1984. Pecci is famous for reaching the 1979 French Open final. Diane Desfor (born June 15, 1955), is an American former tennis player who was active in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Her best result at a Grand Slam singles event was reaching the third round at the 1981 Wimbledon Championships with she lost in straight sets to seventh-seeded Billie Jean King. At the three other Majors she reached the second round in singles. In doubles, with partner Barbara Hallquist, she reached the quarterfinals of the US Open in 1979 and 1980. In December 1979, she won the doubles title at the New South Wales Open with Barbara Hallquist.
