Curt Lindström
Curt "Curre" Lindström (born 26 November 1940) is a Swedish ice hockey coach. Career on international level He coached Team Finland from 1993 to 1997, winning Finland's first Ice Hockey World Championships gold medal in 1995, and a silver world championships medal as well as Olympic bronze. He has won the same medals in coaching duties with Team Sweden, and has also coached the Latvian national men's ice hockey team. Career on club level Lindström stepped in to coach Ilves in the Finnish SM-liiga in the 2004–2005 season after a disappointing start to the season, and led the team to the quarterfinals, where they were beaten by Jokerit. In November 2005, Lindström was hired as a new head coach to Jokerit after the team had a miserable early season under former player and rookie coach Waltteri Immonen. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. Jokerit
Helsingin Jokerit (English: Jokers or Jesters) are a professional ice hockey team based in Helsinki, Finland. The team won six league championships as a member of the Finnish SM-liiga (1973, 1992, 1994, 1996, 1997, and 2002). Jokerit plays its home games at Helsinki Halli. The team was a part of the Bobrov Division of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) Western Conference from the 2014–15 season, making Finland the first Nordic country to have a team in the league. On February 24, 2022, Jokerit announced it would withdraw from the 2022 KHL playoffs due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Doug Shedden
Douglas Arthur Shedden (born April 29, 1961) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former player. He played in the National Hockey League between 1981 and 1991. After his playing career he became a coach, and worked in the minor leagues for several years. He coached Team Finland to a bronze medal in 2008 World Championships. Shedden is currently coaching ERC Ingolstadt in the German DEL. Playing career As a youth, Shedden played in the 1974 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Barrie. Shedden, who played the position of centre, spent eight seasons playing in the National Hockey League for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, Quebec Nordiques and Toronto Maple Leafs. Kari Pekka Eloranta (born February 29, 1956) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey player who played over 20 years in numerous leagues throughout Europe and North America. Among top-level leagues, he played with Reipas Lahti in the Finnish SM-liiga, Leksands IF, HV71 and Rögle BK in the Swedish Elitserien, the Calgary Flames and St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League (NHL) and HC Lugano in Switzerland. Leonīds Beresņevs
Leonīds Beresņevs (russian: Леони́д Арка́дьевич Бе́реснев, ''Leonid Arkadyevich Beresnev''; born 6 July 1958) is a Latvian/Soviet Union, Soviet former ice hockey player and coach. Born in Kirov Oblast he is a coach of the Latvian U-20 junior team. His first term of coaching the Latvian national team was from 1996 till 1999. In the 1996 world championships, when Latvia was playing in division B, they won and for the first time were promoted to division A where they finished at 7th place in 1997. From that time they have remained in division A. Beresņevs' second term started in 2004 and ended in 2006. In 2005 Latvia qualified for Torino Olympics where they took the last place. Latvian National Ice Hockey Team
The Latvian men's national ice hockey team represents Latvia in international ice hockey. The team is ranked 10th in the world by IIHF as of 2019. The team is controlled by the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation. Their best ever finish at the World Championships was 7th place in 1997, 2004 and 2009. Haralds Vasiļjevs
Haralds Vasiļjevs (born February 11, 1952) is a Latvian professional ice hockey coach and former player. He is the head coach of the youth programs for the Graz 99ers. He is a former national team head coach. He played for Dinamo Riga in the USSR Championship. Coaching career Vasiļjevs started coaching with an internship with Dinamo Riga after completing the Russian hockey coaching school after being deemed to have the highest qualification to coach necessary. He then had an internship with his original coach Viktor Tikhonov. From 1985 to 1990, he was the head coach of RASMS Riga, the Dinamo Riga farm club. Hannu Aravirta
Hannu Aravirta (born 26 March 1953) is a Finnish ice hockey player and an ice hockey coach for the Finnish national men's team, SM-liiga and Elitserien. Career as player Aravirta was born in Savonlinna, and made his first professional appearance in the 1973–1974 season, playing 35 games for TuTo in the SM-liiga. In the following season Aravirta played for his hometown team SaPKo in the Suomi-sarja for one season (1974–1975). Aravirta then headed to Kärpät for a three-season stint. Kärpät gained promotion from the first division to the SM-liiga after the 1976–1977 season and Aravirta played for the team in the 1977–1978 season. Aravirta left Oulu and Finland as he went to Södertälje SK to play in Swedish Allsvenskan. Pentti Matikainen (born October 5, 1950 in Joensuu, Finland) is a Finnish hockey coach and general manager. He was selected the SM-liiga coach of the year in 1984. 1984 Canada Cup
The 1984 Labatt Canada Cup was a professional international ice hockey tournament played during the first three weeks of September 1984. The best-of-three final took place between Canada and Sweden, with Canada winning a two game sweep. Canadian forward John Tonelli was named the tournament's most valuable player. This was the only Canada Cup to feature a team from West Germany, who managed a single point in five games based on a 4–4 tie with Czechoslovakia.
