Curiosum
''Curiosum'' is the ninth album by the electronic music outfit Cluster. It was also the final collaboration between Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius before an eight-year hiatus. ''Curiosum'' was recorded in May 1981 at Hamet Hof in Vienna, Austria and released later that year. The album was Cluster's last release for Sky. It lives up to its name, with the seven relatively short tracks of offbeat and unusual melodies. Stewart Mason, in his review for Allmusic, writes that Cluster "...had started taking cues from the groups they'd initially inspired. Gone are the side-long experiments of early Cluster albums..." The album was reissued on CD by Sky in 1996. A 1,000 copy limited edition digitally remastered CD of ''Curiosum'' was released on the Japanese Captain Trip Records label on September 20, 2007. Cluster (band)
Cluster were a German musical duo consisting of Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius, formed in 1971 and associated with West Germany's krautrock and kosmische Musik, kosmische music scenes.Bush, John. Hans-Joachim Roedelius
Hans-Joachim Roedelius (born 26 October 1934) is a German electronic musician and composer, best known as a co-founder of the influential 'kosmische' groups Cluster and Harmonia. He also performed in the ambient jazz trio Aquarello, and released several solo studio albums. Biography Early life Roedelius was born on 26 October 1934 in Berlin in the family of a dentist. He was an unwilling member of the German Youngsters in the Hitler Youth, membership being mandatory for all boys from the age of ten, and appeared in several propaganda films (''Faded Melody'' by Viktor Tourjansky in 1938 ; ''Riding for Germany'' by Arthur Maria Rabenalt in 1941). Roedelius and his mother Gertrud were evacuated from Berlin to a small hamlet in East Prussia. ''Apropos Cluster'' is a full-length studio album by Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius also known as German electronic music outfit Cluster. It was also their first album after an eight-year-long hiatus. In 1989 Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius reunited to the delight of their fans, recording ''Apropos Cluster'' during 1989 and 1990 in Blumau, Austria. The album was released on the Curious Music label in 1991. It was "Cluster"'s first U.S. release. ''Apropos Cluster'' is musically and structurally similar to '' Grosses Wasser'' though it lacked the rhythmic tracks of the 1979 release, instead comprising a mixture of gentle, ambient pieces in the four shorter tracks followed by the nearly 22 minute long, more experimental title piece. "Emmental" became the signature track for Cluster. Sky Records was a Hamburg, Germany-based independent record label specializing in krautrock/Kosmische Musik and electronic music. Some of their releases could be classified as progressive rock or art rock, experimental music, industrial, ambient, or new age. No new releases appeared after 1998. History Sky Records was founded in 1975 by Günter Körber after he left Metronome Musik, the parent company of influential krautrock/Kosmische label Brain Records. Körber was able to sign several former Brain Records recording artists to his new label, most notably Cluster just as they began a successful collaboration with Brian Eno. Dieter Moebius
Dieter Moebius (16 January 1944 – 20 July 2015) was a Swiss-born German electronic musician and composer, best known as a member of the influential krautrock bands Cluster and Harmonia. Moebius was studying art at Berlin's Akademie Grafik and working as a restaurant cook when he met Conrad Schnitzler, founder of the Zodiak Free Arts Lab with Hans-Joachim Roedelius. The trio founded the improv group Kluster in 1969. After the departure of Schnitzler, the duo changed their name to Cluster and relocated to the countryside village of Forst, releasing influential albums such as ''Zuckerzeit'' (1974) and ''Sowiesoso'' (1976).
