Cupa României (rugby Union)
The Cupa României is a rugby union cup competition for Romanian teams which has been held annually since 1914 except for a couple of years where the cup was not held either because of World War II or other unknown reasons. It is the country's main cup competition, although not being open to all clubs affiliated with the Federaţia Română de Rugby (FRR) like in previous editions and only being open to the teams competing in the CEC Bank SuperLiga. In late March, it was announced that Tomitanii Constanța would not participate in the Cupa României for the 2021 season due to financial reasons. The Romanian Rugby Federation ( ro, Federația Română de Rugby), abbreviated as FRR, is the governing body for the sport of rugby union in Romania. Romania currently comprises 24,610 players, 9,810 members of which are registered and 113 clubs in the whole country. History The Romanian Rugby Federation was founded in 1913, shortly after rugby union was introduced to Romania by French University students who moved to study in Romania and were also one of the founding members of the ''Fédération Internationale de Rugby Amateur'', now known as Rugby Europe. CS Dinamo București is a professional Romanian rugby union club from Bucharest, which plays in the Liga Națională de Rugby, the first division of Romanian rugby. They are the second most successful rugby union team in Romania with 16 championship titles, 12 cup titles and even a Champions League title to their name. Vasile Ursu Nicola (1731 in Arada, Principality of Transylvania (now Horea, Romania) – 28 February 1785 in Karlsburg (now Alba Iulia, Romania), commonly known as Horea (in Hungarian sometimes ''Hóra'') was a Transylvanian peasant who, with ("Cloșca") and ("Crișan"), led the two-month-long peasant rebellion that began in the Metaliferi Mountains villages of Curechiu and Mesteacăn in late 1784 and that was known as the Revolt of Horea, Cloșca and Crișan. Stadionul Gheorghe Rășcanu
Gheorghe Rășcanu Stadium ( ro, Stadionul Gheorghe Rășcanu) is a multi-purpose stadium in Timișoara, Romania. It is currently used mostly for rugby union, rugby matches by the local team, SCM Rugby Timișoara. The stadium is named after Timișoara Saracens' legend Gheorghe Rășcanu who played for Timișoara during its golden era. History The stadium was built in 2011 after the board members of the then-called Timișoara Saracens decided to set an objective of winning the title of the Romanian First Division after 40 years, which they did in the 2012–2013 season. The 300,000-euro stadium also includes minifootball pitches along with tennis and basketball pitches for the Timișoara Sports Club which owns SCM Rugby Timișoara. Valentin Nicolae Calafeteanu (born 25 January 1985) is a Romanian rugby union player. His position on the field is scrum-half. He has played for Dinamo Bucarest (2004–09), RCM UVT Timişoara (2010–17) and CSM Bucharest (2017–19). Playing for Dinamo, Calafeteanu became two times National Champion (2007, 2008) and won twice the National Cup.
