Cuispes District
Cuispes is one of the 12 districts of the province of Bongará, located in the Amazonas Region in the north of Peru. It is bordered to the north by the District of Florida; to the east by the District of Jumbilla; to the south by the District of San Carlos; and to the west by the District of Shipasbamba. It is part of the Diocese of Chachapoyas. History The district was created on 11 November 1944, by Law #1004, during the first government of President Manuel Prado Ugarteche. Geography Cuispes District covers 110.72 km2. It has a varied topography, ranging from 1,000 m to 1,690 m above sea level, with highlands, plateaus, and waterfalls, including the majestic Yumbilla. According to a 2005 Census, the population density was 7.8 people per km2, and the population was estimated to be over 700 inhabitants. Peruvian Amazonia ( es, Amazonía del Perú) is the area of the Amazon rainforest included within the country of Peru, from east of the Andes to the borders with Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil and Bolivia. Andean Cock Of The Rock
The Andean cock-of-the-rock (''Rupicola peruvianus''), also known as ''tunki'' ( Quechua), is a large passerine bird of the cotinga family native to Andean cloud forests in South America. It is widely regarded as the national bird of Peru. It has four subspecies and its closest relative is the Guianan cock-of-the-rock. The Andean cock-of-the-rock exhibits marked sexual dimorphism; the male has a large disk-like crest and scarlet or brilliant orange plumage, while the female is significantly darker and browner. Gatherings of males compete for breeding females with each male displaying his colourful plumage, bobbing and hopping, and making a variety of calls. After mating, the female makes a nest under a rocky overhang, incubates the eggs, and rears the young by herself. Gocta Falls
Gocta ( es, Catarata del Gocta) is a perennial waterfall with two drops located in Peru's province of Bongara in Amazonas, approximately to the northeast of Lima. It flows into the Cocahuayco River. Although the waterfall had been well known to locals for centuries (it is in full view of a nearby village), its existence was not made known to the world until after an expedition made in 2002 by a German, Stefan Ziemendorff, with a group of Peruvian explorers. The waterfall, which can be seen from several kilometers away, has been christened Gocta Falls, after the name of the nearest settlement. At the time of the discovery, Ziemendorff successfully persuaded the Peruvian government to map the falls and to measure their height. Yumbilla Falls
Yumbilla Falls is a waterfall located near the town of Cuispes, in the northern Peruvian region of Amazonas. It is considered the world's fifth tallest waterfall, becoming internationally known since late 2007 due to a geographical survey conducted by the Geographical Institute of Peru (IGN). Geography Yumbilla is high, with the top located above sea level and the base at . The height was measured with the help of laser instruments by a geographical survey of the National Geographic Institute of Peru (IGN) in 2007. This area is part of the Eastern Peruvian Andes, also known as Cordillera Oriental, more precisely, part of a mountain massif called Cerro Panhuayco. Manuel Prado Ugarteche
Manuel Carlos Prado y Ugarteche (April 21, 1889 – August 15, 1967) was a banker who served twice as President of Peru. Son of former president Mariano Ignacio Prado, he was born in Lima and served as the nation's 43rd (1939 - 1945) and 46th (1956 - 1962) President. His brother, Leoncio Prado Gutiérrez, was a military hero who died in 1883, six years before Manuel Prado was born. Prado was born in April 1889 as the son of Mariano Ignacio Prado. He went to college and became a banker. In 1915, Prado, along with General Benavides, overthrew Guillermo Billinghurst and his government during the First World War, in which Peru remained neutral. Benavides became the president of the Junta. Later imprisoned, he was deported to Chile and went into exile in France.
