Cuenca–Fernando Zóbel Railway Station
Cuenca – Fernando Zóbel Railway Station is the new railway station in Cuenca, Spain, located from the city centre. It is not to be confused with the historical train station, still in operation and located much closer to the city centre. The station is named after painter Fernando Zóbel to commemorate his links to the city. It occupies with of parking space. It is operated by RENFE and part of Adif and high-speed rail systems. Facilities Cuenca, Spain is a popular day or weekend trip from Madrid, to which it is very well connected. On 2010 December 19 a new AVE ( high-speed rail) link was established on the Madrid–Levante high-speed rail line between Madrid – Atocha station and Cuenca – Fernando Zobel station, providing travellers with frequent connections everyday, and reducing the journey time to only 50 minutes. Madrid–Levante High-speed Rail Network
The Madrid–Levante high-speed network is a network of high-speed rail lines that connects Madrid with the Mediterranean coast of the Levante Region, specifically with Castilla-La Mancha, the Valencian Community and the Murcia Region autonomous communities. The network extends from Madrid to the east, with branches ending in Castellón, Alicante, Elche, Murcia, Cartagena and continuing from Murcia to Almería. When fully operational the Madrid–Levante network will total 955 km of high-speed rail capable of top speeds of 350 km/h in the majority of its segments. Cuenca () is a city and municipality of Spain located in the autonomous community of Castilla–La Mancha. It is the capital of the province of Cuenca. Fernando Zóbel de Ayala y Montojo Torrontegui (August 27, 1924 – June 2, 1984), also known as Fernando M. Zóbel, was a Spanish Filipino painter, businessman, art collector and museum founder. Early life Zóbel was born in Ermita, Manila in the Philippines to Enrique Zóbel de Ayala (1877–1943) and Fermina Montojo y Torrontegui and was a member of the prominent Zóbel de Ayala family. He was a brother of Jacobo Zóbel (father of Enrique J. Zóbel), Alfonso (father of Jaime Zóbel de Ayala) and Mercedes Zóbel McMicking, all children of his father from his first wife, Consuelo Róxas de Ayala (who died on September 25, 1907 at the age of 30). He was a nephew and namesake of Fernando Antonio Zóbel de Ayala, the eldest brother of his father. His father was a patron of Fernando Amorsolo.
