Cucuteni
Cucuteni () is a commune in Iași County, Western Moldavia, Romania, with a population of 1,446 as of 2002. The commune is composed of four villages: Băiceni, Bărbătești, Cucuteni, and Săcărești. It is located from the city of Iași and from the town of Târgu Frumos. Neighbouring villages and communes are Todirești (to the north), Târgu Frumos and Cotnari (to the east) and Ruginoasa (to the west). The name of Cucuteni village is derived from the Romanian word "cucută", meaning '' hemlock''. The Cucuteni culture artifacts A trove of ancient artifacts was discovered in Cucuteni in 1884. It was determined that these artifacts had been produced by an ancient people whose existence and culture had previously been unknown to modern scholars. Iași County () is a county (județ) of Romania, in Western Moldavia, with the administrative seat at Iași. The Palace of Culture ( ro, Palatul Culturii) is an edifice located in Iași, Romania. The building served as Administrative and Justice Palace until 1955, when its destination was changed, being assigned to the four museums nowadays united under the name of Moldavia National Museum Complex. Also, the building houses the Cultural Heritage Conservation-Restoration Centre, and hosts various exhibitions and other events. Ilie Moscovici
Ilie B. Moscovici (also known as Tovilie; 28 November 1885 – 1 November 1943) was a Romanian socialist militant and journalist, one of the noted leaders of the Romanian Social Democratic Party (PSDR). A socialist since early youth and a party member since its creation in 1910, he returned from captivity in World War I to lead the PSDR from Bucharest, and involved himself in a violent clash with the Romanian authorities. He mediated between reformist and Bolshevik currents, and helped establish the Socialist Party of Romania (PS) as a fusion of both tendencies. Moscovici served as a PS representative in Chamber, but was deposed over his instigation of the 1920 general strike, then imprisoned. Although he voted against the creation of a Communist Party from the rump PS and criticized Comintern interference in Romanian affairs, he was again apprehended in 1921. Ioan Arbore
Ioan Arbore (February 23, 1892 – December 25, 1954) was a Romanian major-general during World War II. Arbore was born in Cucuteni, Iași County, a distant descendant of hetman Luca Arbore. He spent his childhood in Sarinasuf, Tulcea County, where his father was a priest. He studied at the Military School (1909–1911), graduating with the rank of second lieutenant, and was promoted to lieutenant în 1914. He fought in World War I, was promoted to captain in 1917, and commanded an artillery battery. He completed his military education at the Higher War School (1919–1920) and at the Military Academy in Paris (1919–1921). Cotnari
Cotnari () is a village and the center of the eponymous commune in Iași County, Romania, in the historical region of Western Moldavia. It is located north-west of Iași and south of Hârlău, in a major wine-producing region of Romania, and is famous for the wine variety known as '' Grasă de Cotnari''. Petru Poni
Petru Poni (4 January 1841 – 2 April 1925) was a Moldavian (later Romanian) chemist and mineralogist. Born into a family of ''răzeși'' (free peasants) in Săcărești, Iași County, he attended primary school in Târgu Frumos. In 1852, he enrolled in ''Academia Mihăileană''; among his teachers were August Treboniu Laurian and Simion Bărnuțiu. He entered the University of Paris in 1865, studying chemistry there. He returned home following graduation, teaching physics and chemistry at Iași's National College and at the military high school. In 1878, he became a professor at the University of Iași, at first teaching at the medicine and science faculties, later only in the mineral chemistry department of the latter. Ghiță Moscu
Ghiță Moscu (born Gelbert or Gelber Moscovici, also known as Alexandru Bădulescu, russian: Александр Саимович Бадулеску; 1889 – November 4, 1937) was a Romanian socialist and communist activist, one of the early leaders of the Romanian Communist Party and its permanent delegate to the Third International.
