''Marcha'' was an influential Uruguayan weekly newspaper. History The first issue was published in Montevideo on 23 June, 1939. Founder and editor was Carlos Quijano, with Juan Carlos Onetti as deputy editor. Its motto was "Navigare necesse vivere non necesse". The orientation of this weekly newspaper was independent leftist, and it was very influential in Uruguay and all Latin America. Carlos Quijano (Montevideo, 21 March 1900 - Mexico, 10 June 1984) was a Uruguayan lawyer, politician, essayist and journalist. Ángel Rama
Ángel A. Rama (; April 30, 1926November 27, 1983) was a Uruguayan writer, academic, and literary critic, known for his work on ''modernismo'' and for his theorization of the concept of "transculturation." Biography Born in Montevideo to Galician immigrants, Rama studied at the Collège de France. He married twice: in 1950, to the poet Ida Vitale, with whom he had two children, Amparo and Claudio; and after separating from Vitale in 1969, to Marta Traba, an eminent art critic, originally from Buenos Aires. In the 1960s, after several years teaching at the secondary and university level, he became director of the department of Hispanoamerican literature at the Universidad de la República, the Uruguayan state-run University. He also founded the publishing houses Editorial Arca in Montevideo and Editorial Galerna in Buenos Aires. Salvador Bécquer Puig (1939–2009) was a Uruguayan poet and journalist. Biography He was born in Montevideo, Uruguay on January 9, 1939. Between 1967 and 1968, he worked as a literary critic for the famous weekly newspaper ''Marcha (newspaper), Marcha''. From 1976 to 1982, he worked as a correspondent for Reuters and from 1982 to 2004 for ANSA . He also worked in radio station CX 30 hosting journalistic programs. In 1987, he participated in the Congress of Iberoamerican writers held in Israel. As a poet, he received several honors, among them, the Bartolome Hidalgo Award in 1993 for his book “Si tuviera que apostar” (If I had to bet), and the Juan José Morosoli Award in 2000 for his literary work. In 2001, he received the first prize in Poetry awarded by the Ministry of Education and Culture for his book “Falso Testimonio” (False Testimony).
