Montevideo
Montevideo () is the Capital city, capital and List of cities in Uruguay, largest city of Uruguay. According to the 2011 census, the city proper has a population of 1,319,108 (about one-third of the country's total population) in an area of . Montevideo is situated on the southern coast of the country, on the northeastern bank of the Río de la Plata. ''Marcha'' was an influential Uruguayan weekly newspaper. History The first issue was published in Montevideo on 23 June, 1939. Founder and editor was Carlos Quijano, with Juan Carlos Onetti as deputy editor. Its motto was "Navigare necesse vivere non necesse". The orientation of this weekly newspaper was independent leftist, and it was very influential in Uruguay and all Latin America.
