Kilnaleck
Kilnaleck or Kilnalec () is a small village in County Cavan, Ireland on the R154 regional road. Kilnaleck was once the centre of a mining boom when in 1879 some local businessmen and a school headmaster decided to develop the coal that existed nearby. However, the coal was very deep and hard to extract and the mine was forced to close. The village is part of Crosserlough parish. Transport A number of Cavan Area Rural Transport (CART) routes serve Kilnaleck. Over the decades Kilnaleck was served by CIÉ and from 1987 by Bus Éireann. However in 2009 the remaining service, Bus Éireann route 179, was discontinued. Nowadays the nearest Bus Éireann routes may be accessed at Mountnugent (route 187) or Ballinagh (route 111), 7 km and 10 km distant respectively. Amenities There is a national school in the village. The Cavan Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association club competition between the top Cavan Gaelic football clubs. It was first competed for in 1888. The winners get the Oliver Plunkett Cup and qualifies to represent their county in the Ulster Club Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. Cornafean have won the most titles, having been victorious 20 times. The current Senior football champions are Gowna after beating Killygarry in the final of 2022. Format 12 teams will contest the Hotel Kilmore Senior Football Championship. The championship shall be run on a league basis up to the Quarter-Final stage and Knock-out thereafter. 2020 Cavan Senior Football Championship
The 2020 Cavan Senior Football Championship was the 111th edition of Cavan GAA's premier gaelic football tournament for senior graded clubs in County Cavan, Ireland. The tournament consists of 12 teams, with the winner not representing Cavan in the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship, due to the latter competition's cancellation. The championship starts with a league stage and then progresses to a knock out stage. The COVID-19 pandemic brought forward the beginning and end dates for the championship but the format was not changed, although there was no relegation this year. Castlerahan were the defending champions after they defeated Ramor United in the previous years final to claim their second title in a row. However they were defeated by Crosserlough at the semi-final stage. Crosserlough and Kingscourt Stars contested the final on 26 September but it ended as a draw. The Cavan Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition between the middle-tier Gaelic football clubs organised by Cavan GAA. It was first competed for in 1915, before a lapse prior to being revived in 1966. The winners qualify to represent their county in the Ulster Intermediate Club Football Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship.
