The 1992 Winter Olympic games cross-country skiing results. The cross-country skiing competitions were held at Les Saisies, about 40 km from the host city Albertville. Evolution of the Olympic program The combined pursuit was added in substitute of the men's 15 km and women's 10 km. Women's 30 km replaced the 20 km event. Les Saisies
Les Saisies is a ski resort located in the Savoie '' départment'' of France. It is from Albertville, host of the 1992 Winter Olympics. For those games, the resort hosted the biathlon and cross-country skiing events. The resort also has alpine skiing trails for use and forms part of the Espace Diamant skiing region. Harri Kirvesniemi
Harri Tapani Kirvesniemi (born 10 May 1958, in Mikkeli) is a Finnish former cross-country skier who competed from 1980 to 2001. During his career he won six Olympic medals (all bronzes), and also the 50 km event at the Holmenkollen ski festival in 2000. He retired after being caught doping at the 2001 World Championship in Lahti. Career His biggest successes though were at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, where he earned a total of eight medals. This included one gold (15 km: 1989), three silvers (4 × 10 km relay: 1989, 1995. 1997), and four bronzes (15 km: 1982, 30 km: 1985, 4 × 10 km relay: 1982 (shared with East Germany), 1991). In 1998, he earned the Holmenkollen medal (shared with Fred Børre Lundberg, Larissa Lazutina, and Alexey Prokurorov). Bice Vanzetta (born 7 March 1961) is an Italian cross-country skier who competed from 1986 to 1994. Biography She won two bronze medals at the Winter Olympics in the 4 × 5 km relay (1992, 1994). Elin Nilsen (born 12 August 1968) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier who competed from 1990 to 2004. She won three silver medals in the 4 × 5 km relay at the Winter Olympics (1992, 1994, 1998). Her best individual Olympic finish was fourth in the 30 km event in both in 1992 and 1998. Solveig Pedersen (born September 6, 1965) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier who competed in the 1980s and 1990s. She won a 4 × 5 km relay silver medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville and finished eighth in the 5 km event at those same games. Larisa Yevgenyevna Lazutina (russian: Лариса Евгеньевна Лазутина; née Ptitsyna, born 1 June 1965) is a Russian former professional cross-country skier. Raisa Petrovna Smetanina (russian: Раиса Петровна Сметанина; born 29 February 1952) is a Soviet and Russian cross-country skiing champion. She is the first woman in history to win ten Winter Olympic medals. Career Smetanina took part in five Olympics, representing the Soviet team four times and the Unified Team once. Stefania Belmondo (born 13 January 1969) is an Italian former cross-country skier, a two-time Olympic champion and four-time world champion in her career. Biography Debut Belmondo was born in Vinadio, in the province of Cuneo (Piedmont), the daughter of a housewife and an electric company employee. In her career she skied with the G.S. Forestale.
