Crime And Peter Chambers
''Crime and Peter Chambers'' is an American old-time radio detective program. It was broadcast on NBC from April 6, 1954, until September 7, 1954. Format ''Crime and Peter Chambers'' brought to radio a fictional private detective created by author Henry Kane, who also produced the show and wrote for it. Kane introduced Chambers in the 1947 novel ''A Halo for Nobody''. and featured him in a series of novels, the last of which was ''Kill for the Millions'' (1972). Chambers was based in New York City, and his fee was $500 per day. Unlike many private detectives on radio, Chambers usually coordinated his work with that of the police. In fact, his best friend was police Lieutenant Louis Parker. Radio historian John Dunning described the program as "an undistinguished half-hour, filled with glib dialogue that played into Dane Clark's image as a screen tough guy." Dane Clark (born Bernard Zanville; February 26, 1912September 11, 1998) was an American character actor who was known for playing, as he labeled himself, "Joe Average." Early life Clark was born in Brooklyn, New York City, the son of Jewish immigrants – Samuel, a sporting goods store owner, and his wife Rose. His date of birth is a matter of some dispute among different sources. He graduated from Cornell University in 1936 and earned a law degree in 1938 at St. John's University School of Law in Queens, New York. The Golden Age of Radio, also known as the old-time radio (OTR) era, was an era of radio in the United States where it was the dominant electronic home entertainment medium. It began with the birth of commercial radio broadcasting in the early 1920s and lasted through the 1950s, when television gradually superseded radio as the medium of choice for scripted programming, variety and dramatic shows. Radio was the first broadcast medium, and during this period people regularly tuned in to their favorite radio programs, and families gathered to listen to the home radio in the evening. John Dunning (born January 9, 1942) is an American writer of non-fiction and detective fiction. He is known for his reference books on old-time radio and his series of mysteries featuring Denver bookseller and ex-policeman Cliff Janeway. Life Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1942, Dunning moved to his father's hometown of Charleston, South Carolina, at the age of three. In 1964 he left his parents' home and moved to Denver, Colorado, where, after a time working as a stable hand at a horse racing track, he got a job at ''The Denver Post''. In 1970 he left the newspaper and took up writing novels, while pursuing a variety of jobs. Partly because of trouble with his publishers, in 1984 he stopped writing and opened a store specializing in second-hand and rare books called the Old Algonquin Bookstore. Bill Zuckert
William Zuckert (born December 18, 1915-died January 23, 1997) was an American actor. Life / Career Born and raised in The Bronx, New York, Zuckert began his career in 1941 in radio and lent his voice to hundreds of dramas over the next two decades. He served in World War II as a member of the naval construction force known as the Seabees. On old-time radio, Zuckert portrayed Lieutenant Louis Parker in the NBC crime drama '' Crime and Peter Chambers''. Leon Janney (April 1, 1917 – October 28, 1980) was an American actor and radio personality from 1920 to 1980. Career Leon Elbert Janney was born in Ogden, Utah, to Nathan Haines Janney and Bernice Rebecca Kohn. The names of his parents are confirmed in both Janney’s death certificate (available in Ancestry.com) and in a birth announcement in ''The Ogden Standard'', April 4, 1917. His mother had reportedly performed using the name Bernice Raymon (''The Washington Post'', Oct. 31, 1915), or Ramon (''Philadelphia Inquirer'' April 1, 1934). Lesley Woods (August 22, 1910 – August 2, 2003) was an American radio, stage and television actress. She was a graduate of the Goodman School of Drama in Chicago. Personal life Woods was married to actor Richard McMurray. Sam McMurray is her stepson. Death Woods died on August 2, 2003, 20 days before her 93rd birthday. Stage Woods' acting on Broadway included being in ''Double Dummy'' (1936), ''Excursion'' (1937), ''Comes the Revelation'' (1942), ''The Assassin'' (1945), and ''A Case of Libel'' (1963–64). She was a member of Theatre West.
