Crestview, Ottawa
Crestview is a neighbourhood in College Ward in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It was originally part of the City of Nepean before amalgamation with Ottawa in 2001. Together with the neighbouring community of Meadowlands, the area is served by the Crestview-Meadowlands Community Association. The community association's boundaries are Meadowlands Drive on the north, Merivale Road on the east, the CN Railtracks on the south and Woodroffe Avenue on the west.https://crestviewmeadowlandscommunityassociation.weebly.com/ Most of the homes are bungalows which were popular in the 1950s and early 1960s. Later on, townhouses were built behind Merivale Mall and another section was built on Viewmount at the corner of Sullivan and Parkside Crescent. College Ward
College Ward or Ward 8 (French: ''Quartier Collège'') is a city ward in Ottawa, Canada's west end. The ward covers the neighbourhoods of Bells Corners, Qualicum, Graham Park, Leslie Park, Redwood, Kenson Park, Parkway Park, Bel-Air Park, Bel-Air Heights, Braemar Park, Copeland Park, Briargreen, Centrepointe, Navaho, City View, Ryan Farm, Meadowlands and Crestview. Prior to the 2006 election, College Ward was known as Baseline Ward, and didn't include Bells Corners. It was incorporated into the city with amalgamation in 2001 (elections were held in 2000). Previously, the ward existed on the earlier Ottawa-Carleton Regional Council. The ward is represented on city council by Rick Chiarelli. The ward has an estimated population of 55,000 (2006) and an area of 46.2 km2. The ward is named for Algonquin College. Nepean, Ontario
Nepean ( ) is a former municipality and now geographic area of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Located west of Ottawa's inner core, it was an independent city until amalgamated with the Regional Municipality of Ottawa–Carleton in 2001 to become the new city of Ottawa. However, the name Nepean continues in common usage in reference to the area. The population of Nepean is about 186,593 people (2021 Census). Although the neighbouring municipality of Kanata, Ontario, Kanata formed the entrepreneurial and high tech centre of the region, Nepean hosted noted industries such as Nortel Networks, JDS Uniphase and Gandalf Technologies. As with the rest of the National Capital Region, however, Nepean's economy was also heavily dependent on federal government employment. Merivale Mall
Merivale Mall is an indoor mall located at 1642 Merivale Road in the Nepean district of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The mall opened in 1976 and is bordered by Viewmount Drive to the south and Merivale Road to the east. It's an approximate 20-minute drive from Downtown Ottawa. Some of the shops and services currently located at the mall include Farm Boy, CIBC, Pizza Pizza, Shoppers Drug Mart, Sport Chek, and Planet Fitness. The mall is currently owned by First Capital Realty. Redevelopment In February 2015, Merivale Mall announced that it would be undergoing a $10 million redevelopment. This redevelopment would include a new Marshalls location that would be 25,900 square feet. The redevelopment also included a relocated and redesigned Sport Chek. Merivale High School
Merivale High School (abbreviated as MHS, or 'Merivale' to students) is a public high school, located at the intersection of Merivale Road and Viewmount Drive in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (former city of Nepean, Ontario). The school is known for its International Baccalaureate student program, but also runs French Immersion programs and visual art, music, and co-operative education programs. Despite being designed for over two thousand students, Merivale High School's population fell to an all-time low of 650 students for the 2013-14 school year. This is attributed to changing neighbourhood demographics, as well as new schools in the subdivision of Barrhaven. It was announced in October 2016 that Merivale High School would add both grades 7 and 8 to increase student enrollment for the 2017/2018 school year.
